But, have a look at Mayweather's frame - he's fought at Light Middleweight! Then have a look at Ricky.

It's all ifs and buts, but if they were both naturally 140 lbs or 147 lbs, Ricky would have a 50/50 chance, regardless of contrasting styles. I'll tell you why. Ricky's game is based on bullying the other lad, and he does it very effectively at 140 lbs, there's nothing to touch him at that weight; you can't bully a man who's 2 inches taller, and two inches to the good in reach, chest and waist. Yeah, Mayweather is exceptionally quick on his feet, but Ricky is a lot quicker than people assume, the problem was that he couldn't force the Yank back and dictate the fight - Mayweather simply pushed him off with his strength.

Genuinely, there are few people in the boxing business in England who gave Ricky a chance of pulling this one off - due to the difference in size.

If Hatton is the "street brawler" type, then by and large as they meet ever more skilled opponents they eventually come across someone who can deal with the "brawling" and dish out some lethal punches of their own.
Isn't that what happened here?

No disgrace in losing to a better opponent.

The Athletic club I belong to hosted the fight and a little Que-party { I don't have television} - So I got to watch the fight.

Two observations :

1} As I mentioned in NG's other thread - I knew the fight would move into the later rounds as most of Merryweather's recent fights have gone long.

2} Hatton has good heart, but he's a shity counter puncher and has no downstairs game. Twice he had Mayweather in trouble where he shoulda went downstairs but kept thrown' up top. Suprised me.

Anyways....it was a good show. Sounds like Hatton and De la Hoya will fight this upcoming summer.

DelaHoya needs to stay out of the ring and continue on with office work and cross dressing. He is past his prime.

As far as Hatton and Mayweather.......very good fight. I would love to see Mayweather fight Cotto next. See how he does with a man that is nearer his size and not past his prime. I give Hatton a great deal of credit, he gave Floyd a far better fight than DelaHoya did.

It wouldn't be a good fight for Ricky, UR, he needs to get back down to light welterweight. I reckon he'll fight Junior Witter from Sheffield who's the WBC belt holder - Hatton has ducked him for years because Witter is dangerous and he didn't want him getting in the way of his crack at Mayweather. That's gone now, and Hatton/Witter would be a big fight in England, and they could hold it at a football ground and sell upwards of 50,000 tickets no problem.

When l started this thread, I didn't realise just how many of you out there were avid fight fans...and the respone you would bring....l thank each and every one of you for your opinions and input.....l think a permanent thread on boxing should be created....Anyone interested ???
