Has anyone tried making his/her own multi-tail whip from bootlaces? The mechanics of it seem simple enough. I've heard such whips hurt like hell and must be used very carefully.

Any thoughts?

So far, I only make floggers from both paracord and rawhide bootlace. As far as a multi tail whip it is not something I've attempted thus far. I have seen someone braid out a handful of strands and leave the end lengths about 3 inches long at the end to make for a multi tail whip.

Dear SirJohnMandevill, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I find rawhide boot laces square and rarely are they flat.  Really depends on your source of supply.

I also find braiding boot laces will shorten the final effort as far as a decent 'flogger' and or 'cat o nine' whip.  You could have a bit longer than a keyring floggler as braiding will take up inches.

Most whip braiding has been done with flat leather and a rather long length of leather.

I do find work boot rawhide bootlaces great for quirts, a two tail 'cracker/popper.'  Otherwise, tying nine laces to one common plug as to hang together and in motion not fray about, would make a nice high sting 'cat o nine.'

What you may wish to consider is buying laces for side lace up vests or, to buy the rawhide on a spool.  This way you can cut a long lash/tail and set it up to braid your many tails into a whip but, as far as working class, I would put it in the cat o nine or flail, as the sting factor would be very intense.

Should you go into such a vein of creating such a product, you can also add knots into the tail/lash but, I recommend putting knots in different spots for each lash/tail as to permit the final whip product to hang together and tight.  Otherwise the knots will bounce off each other.  If you add beads, please make sure they aren't glued halves--impact they'll fracture and fly all over.  The knots on cats are often considered 'blood knots.'  Weaving three lashes like braiding hair is also a nice option.

www.davidmorgan.com has kangaroo leather for braiding/making whips for sale.  Just be aware that they are not scene friendly.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs
