I think the great majority of people who try to get therapy from the scene are playing with fire and end up more messed up than ever.

I agree with EmeraldSlave2, about playing with fire <and not in a good way>. I have several friends that thought to open up to their therapists, about their BDSM affiliations/activities. The therapy sessions then turned into how to heal them of their "illness" and interest in BDSM. It really only screwed them up more...until they quite seeing the therapist and began to think for themselves.

Actually that's not what I was saying. I was saying that people who use bdsm AS their therapy will likely end up more messed up.

I know a lot of therapists today aren't that great either, but some are. More often I see therapy fail simply because a person doesn't do their homework and find a good therapist they really trust. So they play games with the therapist and it ends up doing no one any good.

Replace therapist with Top/Dom, therapy with D/s, 'a person' with bottom/sub and I think we have the reason why there are so many revolving door relationships in this "lifestyle."

i am with Citizen Cane on His post all the way. Veav Your question is an excellent one...[8|] with 500,000 different answers if not more. We are all so different. There is absolutely no One answer to Your question. Only, Yes, No, Perhaps for some. Citizen Cane said it all, some are best to seek therapy, while others can do their work through bdsm. i personally have done both, and will continue to do so. Bdsm brings me a certain clarity of thought process that i have only been able to gain from this venue. There are some issues in my Life i would never look to bdsm to ever deal with, and for those i use a therapist. Usually......hopefully?[8D].....if someone...dom or sub? Is not together enough to be engaging in bdsm at all? We will find out before we get involved with them, on a physical level. Thats where fine tuning gut instincts, and intuition comes in, plain old practice.[:)]
edited for spelling....grrr
