Two weeks after news of his death first made headlines, the autopsy results on late Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow — who was found in his Las Vegas home November 25, dead at age 52 — were released Monday (December 10), according to The Associated Press. DuBrow reportedly died of an accidental cocaine overdose.

The wire service claims Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause of death following the receipt of toxicology results, also on Monday.

DuBrow's death was ruled accidental, and according to a spokesperson for the Las Vegas police department, there were no signs of forced entry at the home, and police have not suspected foul play.
According to those close to the singer, DuBrow celebrated his birthday the month before in New Orleans and seemed to be in good health.

Damn, another rock 'n roller dying too young because of drugs. That really sucks. Quiet Riot wasn't exactly top-notch talent imo, but they were certainly part of my childhood soundtrack. That's a shame.

I liked their music, while in certain moods. Not quite punk rock, but still edgy. It was good.

Cocaine makes it so easy to do her 'til you die, she's such a...

I had to quit, she almost killed me too. Stevie Nicks wrote "Gold Dust Woman" about a tryst with her, rockers Cocain hasn't taken often know her very well

"accidental cocaine overdose" ....like that many people actually try to die while they are getting high....they just can't get high enough....and the body eventually can't keep up...glad i am still alive...have to remind myself of that on a daily basis...

Haha, I had my fling with it too, and you're right. Luckily, the money ran out before it become a more serious problem.

if it is a serious problem, money is not a problem...you're right, you were lucky...a lot of people look at me funny when i say "kids these days," but heck, i've been saying it since i was 14, why should i stop now...it scares the shit out of me when i see kids these days playing with cocaine like it's nothing...when i know that i lost my soul to it in rocked up from....and if i mention it to them, they smile and pat me on the head like i am some idiot, because they will be ok because they are smarter than me........

turn it over chelle...even when you only saw one set of footsteps, that was God carrying you, not you by yourself...

anywho...it sucks that music has lost so many great artists to drugs...i don't know if anyone knows what goes on behind the scenes...but a lot of musicians, maybe not the big guys so much, but a lot of them stop using and feel that they loose their music....they just didn't give it enough time...and forgot to fill that hole that they were filling with drugs with some thing else...

anyway, enough lamenting, i'm off to another thread

That's me. The money ran out, and I had real friends

chellekitty -> RE: Quiet Riot's Kevin Dubrow dies (12/12/2007 7:38:20 AM)

wow ...debunking myth #16....real friend's won't keep you clean if you are an addict...an addict will fuck up real friendship, no matter how hard real friends try

debunking myth #2 family won't keep you clean....(this is where divorce court and cps comes in) if your husband/wife and/or children would have kept you clean, you would have gotten clean a long time ago

chelle
yes the numbers are arbitrary

Why the hell are you doing cocaine at 52? Pretty sad.
I tried cocaine once many years ago. It felt like I was at the dentist, didn't do a thing for me.

Lucky you.  Snorting it didn't do a thing for me either.  Mainlining?  Wooooosh[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image].  No matter the age, you try that and 2, 52 or 102, it'll get ahold of ya I can almost guarantee.  Took jail time to put some sense into me.  That and, afterwards, the determination that I'd rather die than shoot up again.  Might as well go fast instead of one blast at a time....................luci

I never was a fan of Quiet Riot.  I just never got the fascination with the hair bands.  It's awful when anyone dies from an OD.  But, some people just refuse to grow up and be responsible.  It's a shame.

chellekitty -> RE: Quiet Riot's Kevin Dubrow dies (12/12/2007 7:48:18 PM)

ooo myth # 13 - if an addict would just grow up and be responsible...like if diabetics would just stop eating sugar, and cancer patients would not do whatever gave them cancer, and depressed people would just cheer up... you can play fill in the blank with this one actually "if an addcit would just ___________".

Tons of myths about addiction, and medical science is only beginning to unravel the mysteries. A lot of these misconceptions stem from the "addiction is a disease" truism.. which it can be looked at that way, of course. But it's NOT a disease like diabetes. Then people tend to conclude that since addiction doesn't function like a "regular" kind of disease, it must be purely mental ( they just need willpower). There's still much more to be learned about it all.

I snorted and never cooked, but the fact remains that the only reason I stopped was because of money. No wising up, no noble intentions. Lack of cash. That's a scary thought, huh? I've read that cocaine in particular permamently changes the dopamine level in your brain, so you'll always "remember" those highs as being the best you've ever felt in your life.

I can vouch for that.  I've been clean for nearly six years but in that time I have had some dreams at night that were scary realistic.  I swear I could "feel" the rush as I was shooting up in the dream.  I read a study several years back.  I can't remember the details enough to cite it per se but I remember it was an experiment with lab mice/rats and coke.  They had the ability to push a lever and get a shot.  They would push the lever over and over until they killed themselves.  Since it goes right to the "pleasure center" of ones' brain, that good feeling was just too much for them to resist.  Sad that it happens to so many people too.  Unfortunately, being short on cash doesn't always stop an addict.  They just get cash however they can.  Glad you didn't go that route.  I learned the hard way...................luci
