I posted this in my livejournal after I read the news: Proof that the universe is, at best, an impartial bitch or, at worst, actively vindictive. Britney Spears, Uwe Boll, George W. Bush and Keanu Reeves still walk the planet in good health. But this week Terry Pratchet was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

My ex's family were real Church of England types, till her grandma got Alzheimer's. Grandma spent all her life going to church, and doing stuff for the church, and reading her bible and praying and all that jazz, and my ex's family were much the same. The view now is, that if grandma had done all this for the church and so for God, and then got this as her reward, then either God is a shithead or simply doesnt exist. Meanwhile, my grandma was dead set against Christianity as a whole, was as much as the period of time in which she lived allowed, a proper little pagan. And the best person I ever knew. She died almost instantly from a heart attack with little pain or suffering. Religiosity it would seem, does little next to religion, if there is a God. And otherwise its just a lottery. E
