Maya, I had my surgery 8 years ago. While I was still on the morphine drip and not even out of bed for my first steps, I went on a horrific crying binge because the night nurse wouldn't give me Tylenol for my fever. When my Dr. came in the next morning, in between sobs and rants, she looked at me so sweetly and asked if I had received my estrogen patch. I just cried "n..n...no..."! About 4 hours after the patch was placed, I was a new woman. I had my surgery when I was 35, so I hadn't started menopause yet. I had a total hysterectomy. I smoke and I am on plain estrogen, 1mg daily. Right after surgery, I went through a year of trying combinations of testosterone and estrogen, but after a while, my libido came back and just plain estrogen keeps the "evil one" at bay now. I have many friends who have gone through surgical menopause without meds, and they seem to balance out after six months or so. Good luck...and hang in there. I just wanted to share my experience being a smoker, taking estrogen and how it has been a lifesaver for me. susan
