"Awaiting approval" - 12/22/2007 9:43:05 AM

Sometimes when I am reading the forums I see posts going through that don't get posted right away.  Instead of their thoughts I see the words "awaiting approval", I guess from the mods.
I have also seen first time posts (I saw 6 of these the other day from the same person), state the post is awaiting approval.
Why does this happen?

They are on moderated status and the mods must read and approve it, before it is seen by others.

Because they did not appease the gods.
It just means they broke TOS and are on moderation before the posts show up.

Yes, they have pissed the mod off.  Interestingly enough, lately i see the 'waiting approval' with quite a few and not necessarily because they have crossed TOS.

hmmm... maybe we have a 'waiting approval' control freak as a mod right now?

Maybe you are right.  The other day I saw 6 posts from the same person who didn't have any prior posts listed.  I was wondering if they are now moderating new members.  Maybe it has to do with that pay for site, with the pro domme.
Freaky.
I didn't know we could be silenced at will.

Something to remember is that the poster may not be new.  There are a handful of profiles who haven't followed TOS from day one.  And if you get a post pulled and moderated it doesn't show on your posting list/number of posts you have made.  So they may look like they haven't posted, but have - its just they keep getting pulled and keep breaking TOS.  Until you show willing, you aint gonna get off moderation.

Yes, you can be "slienced at will" here on CM, or any other internet site.

"Freedom of speech" only applies to government actions.  CM - as does any other privately owned and operated sites - has the right and ability to allow or not allow anyone it chooses to use it facilities, resources, and assets.

In fact, they have a duty and legal obligation to disallow certain types of communications.

If first time posts are awaiting aproval, its usually becasue they are from accounts that have been created that are linked to troublemaker accounts. Others have already been warned in private for things and then come here to the forums and are being watched. The awaiting approval means you have done wsomething to make you les than publically acceptable in the mods eyes and they are going ot have to check everything you write to make sure you arent being naughty.

Unless you got a crystal ball as an early Christmas present, you have absolutely no idea why people have been moderated, so please don't pretend otherwise.

Yes, because we have nothing better to do during the holidays than to waste our time approving posts from users who couldn't be troubled to follow our rules.

May I ask how you know why they were put on moderated status?? Is it not possible that TOS was crossed and the remark was pulled before you saw it? Did you ask the people on moderation to find out why they had been told they were on moderation, or do you just "sense" that it is a control freak moderating on the boards now? Do you not think that Collarme fills those positions VERY carefully, to ensure that the moderators abide by the sites rules and the owners' wishes instead of their own? Or do you think they just sign  people up willy nilly........Sheesh

edited to add: Sorry Mod 11, I posted where I quoted, I shoulda known you were already answering.....my bad........so, don't even want to ask what you will be doing the holidays, while all the others are having fun.......it's a shame that you can't enjoy these boards like the rest of us!!

Wow, I didn't even know you could link accounts.  LOL but is that lame or what?  Why create another account linked to a bad account?  Heh.. in that case they deserve moderation.
I thought it was because the posts were jessicapower related or something similar.

Threads are pulled so quickly at times, there is no way the average user on this site can know if it truly is a first time poster or not. Therefore, there is no way for us to know why a particular person is on moderation.  I would suggest if anyone really wanted to know why a certain poster was on moderation was to ask them instead of assuming there are control freaks doing whatever the hell they want with TOS.

Exactly.  Typically if someone has been put on moderation, the posts that put them there were pulled so the rest of us folks really don't know, unless we were there as it was occurring..

I saw the original thread by that guy.  I was offline, and someone IMed me and asked me to take a look at it, maybe because I have experience dealing in real with people who are mentally ill.  I don't know you at all, and even so I can say that poster was breaking TOS in ways you would not have liked or supported, and my guess is you would have found that poster and that thread "freaky."

I would like to say, though, publicly, that Jefff -- who pretends that he's just a funnyman -- actually tried to reach out to the guy even though other people were just flaming.  The same person who had IMed me was IMing him.  I was impressed.

Firmhand, I've always wondered about that.
Given that the "Internet" was created with U.S. Taxpayer Dollars by the pentagon and all.
Oh, and Moderator 11 and me get along famously!
I got one of those e-cards on my birthday from Moderator 6.
Perhaps  Moderator 11 forgot my birthday.

i think CM has enough sense to get folks to mod that would only moderate for breaking tos-not just for pissing them off.....if just getting pissed off was enough, id say youre about to be moderated and awaiting approval

edited to add i should have kept reading and Merry Christmas Mod 11, unless that irritates you.....and if so-happy holidays-lol
