ORIGINAL: cellogrrlMK I don't understand the constant comparison between Gor and Trekkers (yes, the proper term is "Trekker", not Trekkie, unless those are the ones everybody says lives in their own Star Trek worlds). it's actually quite ironic ... I go to conventions a lot, that being where I sell my works and bask in the adoration of teeming hordes of fans ... OK, maybe not quite that popular, but a slave can hope, right?? :) anyways, for a bunch of people who like to make the comparison between us and Trekk[ies|ers], the one thing none of them have ever explained is why every single convention has at least half a dozen play parties going on there. I've never actually seen a Gorean Gathering at a convention, other than informal get-togethers by Men and their property because they happen to be there at the same time, but there are formally organized and advertised play parties. makes me wonder which sub-cultural grouping is the one with the Star Trek cornerstone in their lives. raising the "Star Trek" spectre is simply straw man argument, and I suspect those that bring it up do so because they actually are incapable, through ignorance most likely, to rationally dispute the premises that were collated and turned into pretty badly edited fictional works by Norman. but because they want to jump on the bandwagon and appear to be "cool" to their own peer group, they trot out the Star Trek comparison. it's kind of sad that the art of rational debate has sunk so low that they're unable to counter anything with what amounts to the cornerstone of society these days - a verbal soundbite. what's even more sad is that people don't seem to understand that their casual dismissal of the precepts contained within the philosophies that formed the backdrop to the stories of Gor is also a dismissal of many of the precepts they claim to adhere to within their own lifestyle. Gor is a collation of concepts, many of which are part and parcel of those other lifestyles. to dismiss the precepts contained within Gor is to dismiss those precepts themselves, which invalidates every lifestyle. if Gor == Star Trek, then BDSM == Exit to Eden, another particularly badly written book. I've asked those that make the Star Trek comparison in the past to prove why the criteria they use to denigrate our chosen philosophical outlook shouldn't/can't be applied equally back at theirs, but none have been willing. ~miika proud collared and marked property (p.s. to the one that questioned such a relationship lasting longer than 2 years, I've been in my Master's steel for 10 years 2 months and 10 days as of this writing, in steel 22 years total now. if your experience with how long relationships last leads you to believe such a long term isn't possible, despite the evidence of this not being unique spread all over users of many different lifestyles on the forums, then perhaps you're asking yourself the wrong question?)
