I'm totally worn out with the PC stuff. This country was founded on Christian religious freedoms. They wanted to worship as they pleased without the British royalty of the moment dictating whether they were going to be Catholic or Protestant or Cof E or whatever . They could be whatever denomination they wanted. That was one of the key factors in separation of church and state not having the Govt dictate what you practiced. Now it seems the govt dictates how we practice religion in that we can no longer display the symbols of Christian religion that surround our holidays in this country. The US was not founded on Muslim, Hindu, Wiccan, or other religious freedoms. It wasn't even a thought in the founder's minds. Nothing in the Declaration of Independence or any other early document of the US refers to Allah, "the gods or godesses" or names any other diety other than "God." If those who have chosen to come to the US don't care for the way this country was set up they can kindly exit exactly the same way they entered. I'm not against freedom of religion for other religions but in the practice of that other religion don't keep me from practicing Christianity. Set up your religious symbols on your holy or sacred days. I won't be offended unless you insist on telling me I can't do the same thing.

I got to love this PC junk. I am atheist and I say Merry Chistmas to anyone unless I know they are Jewish. If they say something about Kwanza I say something about a made up holiday. The founding fathers split w/ England, over money,not religion.They crafted laws to keep government out of it,because they were cool,and smart.God bless them. I say Merry Christmas, and if someone gets offended that is their problem. With me it has nothing to do with relgion, but has everything to do with the holiday tradition I grew up with. Yes the PC crap has gone way too far. Merry Christmas to all!!!

Well of course you can say whatever you want. But your comment about 'if someone gets offended that is their problem' if you say something to someone without being thoughtful and not caring about how someone might feel about it, than that is just plain rude and mean. For example...have you ever seen the type of person that says 'hi how are you doing?' and by the time you open your mouth to answer they are halfway down the hallway and are turning the corner not even caring to hear your answer or how you feel? That is exactly the same thing, don't just say something to say it, especially if you want to say something with good intentions, say it thoughtfully with regard to the other person you are saying it too. And if you don't have good intentions, like you said, you basically don't care about how someone feels about it if they get offended, than don't say it at all.

Good points, julia. I would think that a greeting,no matter what form,would be taken happily and with grace. To be offended,when someone tries to be thoughtful and friendly,is a ridiculous and phony. A few years ago, I do remember a woman getting snarly because I had the audacity to say " Happy Holidays" to her. I'm not afraid to wish a person "Merry Christmas", but what's wrong with being inclusive? They're all holidays.... I see people going a bit too far on both sides of the fence.

Personaly I say Happy Holidays durring the season... I have many Jewish, Christian, Hindu, and African American friends who celibrate Kwanza... It fits the bill for every one no matter what they practice. Now on the actual day, or the day before 24th, 25th I do say Merry Christmas.. because well it is Christmas. When I send out cards I buy Hanukkah, Kwanza, funny, and religous Christmas cards. Every one gets the one that pertains to them. People who get offended by someone greeting them for the holidays in what ever way they chose to do it needs to get a freakin life. Some one is actualy being nice and taking time to greet them.. be happy about it. I hate being called Ma'am ( other then in the lifestyle mind you ) but I just smile and realise they were being polite and conciderate. In some things there are many unthinking people who hurt others with thier verbage.. ( like straight folks saying fag... or any other slur.. if you are not of that group dont freakin call someone that name. You can't reclaim the name if you are standing on the outside. So sorry ) But to simply wish some one a Happy or Merry whatever.. just chill folks. It is a Christian Holiday. Christ should not be taken out of it. Just like Deidels and the Hallel prayer go with Hanukkah. So Merry Christmas to you all on this wonderful day... and as I say to my kinky friends.. Hairy Sex Mouse... ( say it out loud..) Gwyn

i remember working for IHoP and i would have to say either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" to certain customers due to religious beliefs. Most of our customers who came to the restuarant on Christmas were either JWs or Muslims, so i didn't say anything just wishing them a "Happy New Year"

As a Jew, I have re-introduced saying "Merry Christmas" at our hotel. Why? Because I have never met anyone who was offended by it, except those who wear their religion on their sleeve, and to those you what to say. Then again, many people, who knew I was Jewish, asked me what I was doing for Christmas, and were shocked that I was going to sit at home and read dirty books. So I just started telling people that I do the same on Christmas as they do on Hannukah. Happy Holy Days, Collarme! benji
