Here is a link to JT's Stockroom page where they have beds made of metal built with bondage in mind. You can look at them for ideas on making your own. As for making it out of wood you'll need to use a hardwood like say oak or something along that lines due to the strength it provides. Softwoods like pine are, as the classification implies, weak and often can't hold up to rigerious strain and heavy use unless reinforced properly. Of course using a hardwood makes it very heavy but with the right tools, such as a laithe to round 4X4's, and skill one can be made out of wood and be quite pleasing to the eye as well as functional. I hope this helps. I'm an amature woodworker so feel free to hit me with any ideas to help determine their feasability and how they may need to be reinforced.
