I have had an eating disorder for six years now (bulimia).  I have tried fighting this on my own for years, and more recent with therapy and meds.  Nothing seems to help for anything longer than a couple of weeks at a time.

I am finally at the last straw and am considering an inpatient eating disorder program.  I think I can get the insurance to cover it and will bring it up with my therapist the next appt. I have.

I am just curious if anyone has ever been in one of these places before.  I am a bit scared, but feel that something this intense is probably what I need at this point.

Anything you could share with me would help and be appreciated.  I don't really know what to expect and one of my biggest fears has always been the unknown of situations.

Thank you, in advance.

greetings givingin,

i've had an eating disorder for 8 years (ednos - primarily anorexia and binge eating). i've never been in inpatient, but i know many people who have, and who have been helped by it. i know at many times that it would have been best for me, but it was never really an option for me - i have been getting outpatient treatment off and on for about a year and a half now, though.

i cannot stress this enough: if you are willing to do it, please, please do it. if you have the werewithal to get help, please, please get help. so many people are not willing and able when they need to - so if you can, please do. i know it's scary...but it may be the best decision you can make.

i belong to an online support group that i've been in for a long time now and it's been really helpful for me - if you would like, i can send you the link on the other side. feel free to cmail me if you ever want to chat.

annabelle.

A group of friends can and will be benifical. I had a sister who needed to admitted to a hospital that has such a support program.

Knowing and realizing that balimia is a disorder and not a diet means that you've already won half the battle. Keep fighting, you'll make it. You will have friends who are with you now.
