can anyone out there recommend a decent and discreet photographer who does reproductions, enlargements etc? My old studio just went out of business. Thanx and Happy New Year!

There are a ton of quality online sites that print and mail from downloaded jpegs.
Unless, of course, you're talking about illegal activities in the pics.  Then you're on your own.

I am an amateur photographer (meaning it's not my livelihood, not a reference to my work itself) and in my experience the best developers for privacy are the small owner operated shops. Avoid any large chains at all costs. If you photos contain any sort of S&M activities you ay run into issues with a developer reporting the images to the police. Even though the activities depicted would be consensual you may be in for an uncomfortable police experience.

In that case I would recommend purchasing your own equipment, and nowadays it is quite reasonable. For example you would need a dedicated photo printer (capable of printing the size you want) and a scanner (either a flat bed scanner for scanning existing photos or a negative / slide scanner for scanning negatives). You would simply scan the image, use any photo program to resize it and then print it.

Yes, DO NOT take your film, discs, other electronic media to one of the big chains.  I remember reading, in several places, a while back about a coulpe who took their pictures from their 'dream' vacation to Walmart who distroyed them.
They had taken hundreds of pics in the museums of France and Italy... the photo people at the Walmart distroyed the film due to 'violation of store policy for picture development'[or something like that].  Walmart does not develop or print pictures containing nudity.
Silly museums, didn't dress the various statues or in any way clothe the nudes in the paintings, soooo.... since there were pics of nudes.   The couple ended up spending thousands of dollars for their dream vacation touring the major/famous art museums... and lost all their pictures.
