MissMorrigan -> Zentai Garment Care (1/7/2008 2:39:13 AM)

I have a full zentai mermaid suit (plastic coated lycra) complete with fitted hood/gloves, it has been worn and washed - washing was done on a delicate cycle and very low temperature. However, it has dried with a horrible finish, the shine is gone. Is there anyone that can offer a suggestion as to how I can correct this? I know I should have asked how to care for the suit prior to washing it!

I would reccomend gently hand washing and hang to dry.  Something like Woolite is good for delicate items.  I would also reccomend wasing it as little as possible.

Thank you for replying, John. I did use a gentle action cycle for delicate materials and a washing powder suitable for that, but the shiny surface is now dull. As the suit is thick lycra with a shiny plastic outer, the person inside it sweats considerably so washing afterwards is a must.

I'm wondering how other people deal with their zentai suits after they've been worn.

Hi, i have quite a few zentai suits and even the mermaid rubber coated lycra.. i have found using a conditioner for latex suits that bring the latex to shine works well with the dullness..

I do the handwash thing for PVC and coated lycra because it is even more gentle than the gentle wash cycle of a machine, which over time, can cause the coating to peel off of the lycra.  I use STP Son of a Gun to restore the shine to the dullness after washing.  Latex conditioner works well, too.
