YourhandMyAss -> What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 10:37:38 AM)

I see on talk shows all the time( ok used to don't watch the beasts any more) Where someone would drag their unsuspecting spouse onto this show usualy under some pretense, all to tell them something private usualy painful and sometimes devistating.

WHY do you need to go on public telivision to tell your partner you've cheated on him with his 17 year old son, love the son more, want to leave hubby for said son, and oh yeah I am pregnant with your sons baby. Or why do you need to go on public tv to announce that you doubt said hubby is in deed the father of the child he's always believed is his. WHY couldn't you have stated that in private.

I know that for some being on tv and all is so very exciting, but if you say you care for someone why drag all your personal dark painful dirty laundry out for public telivision to pick apart.

It takes all kinds, and we gotem.

I've wondered the same thing. I don't watch the crap really but I work on bigscreens/home theater TVs. So naturally some of them must test play.

I actually did see one where the guy got his bad news and said "Why couldn't you tell me this at home ?" Having FINALLY heard those words it was a good thing I wasn't drinking coffee, but that's not the hoot of all times, not by a longshot.

One guy got the revelation that his olady was sleeping with like four of his best friends. Before the actual telling though, he said he was puzzled because he thought they shared everything. I guess he was righter than he thought. Good thing I wasn't soldering at the time.

No cable, the shop has an antenna, and the cleanest most stable signal is the local Fox affiliate. Judge shows all day. Some of these people are quite the piece of work. I actually caught Judge Judy saying "Do you watch Judge Judy ?" the litigant repied "Yes" and she then said "So why on Earth would you get this guy a cellphone ?". Good thing I wasn't handling a $786.34 LCD block for a projection light engine.

All in all, present company excepted, I used to wonder what went through people's minds. I wonder no more, NOTHING goes through their minds.

Most people are probably paid. Or getting their kicks by coming up with wacky stories, just to be on tv.  I am seriously tired of the "who is my baby's daddy" episodes.

sexyred1 -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 3:38:32 PM)

Or fear that their partner will kill them in private but cannot on TV.

TreSwank?? We missed you dude.

LadyEllen -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 4:14:25 PM)

Lets face it, the people who do those kinds of shows are generally not the (ahem) brightest.....

Maybe I should apply - if only I had a story better than "I havent been cheating on my/your (insert relative) or anyone else for years"

Because they won't hit you on live TV?

I dunno, it was the first thing that popped into my head.

MissHarlet -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 4:25:25 PM)

they may not kill them on tv .. but they have to go home sometime ...

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 4:58:56 PM)

simply because most love the soap opera drama that unfolds on smut tv talk shows like yesterday on The Steve Wilkos Show - it was UMs confronting their deadbeat dad. Maury is the worst of them all with his paternity /lie detector tests.

Remember when the country went Jerry Springer crazy? Oh man, some of those damn episodes! The old women wearing granny panties and/or Depends strippers! The girls flashing tits for what ever reason! The mama's stealin' their daughters boy (yes, boy)! The obese (I don't mean women with a little extra here) strippers! The fights and slapping! Man Jerry pulled them out of the woods, dives and trailers; how he found them people is anyones guess. I think the show still comes on even........?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/9/2008 8:38:18 PM)

That is a very good reason not to tell them privately.

Dunno if it was on but one time one of the talk shows was guess if its a   woman or man in drag, These people would come on stage and you'd have to guess, was it a biologic woman or was it a man dressed as a woman. I thought it was making  out gender issues to be a kind of a game something to guess who's passable and who's just to ugly kind of deal and not very funny so I didn't watch.

I think some people are trashy, have no class, no self-respect, no respect for others, and want their 15 minutes of fame, no matter what the cost.

I think that more than anything sums it all up.

With the deadbeat Dad stuff I can understand it being a last act of desperation.

I don't know why people do it, I think it's pretty tacky.  Hell I think it is from some of the posts/threads here.  However, there was a funniest video type thing of televised or party type announcements such as engagement proposals etc. a few years back that was hilarious on this topic.  It really proved the old adage don't ask the question (in front of 100 friends or an entire football stadium) when you don't know the answer.

sub4hire -> RE: What would possess someone to go on public tv to tell their partner something utterly private? (1/10/2008 6:03:54 AM)

I don't know if I would classify it as greed.  With so many people living paycheck to paycheck in this country.
I have no idea of the stats but I'm sure half the country is under the poverty level.

Most of the Springer-ettes seem to be of the welfare persuasion.  So a chance at making thousands of dollars for an hour show and a bit of prodding...why not?
Springer has a script, so the people probably figure no loss in the end.

I don't know, I've been on several shows doing interviews and I'm yet to make a dime out of any.  Of course I also have self respect, whether I'd be telling lies due to the script or not I wouldn't want anyone watching it.
