Estring -> Bad First Impression (2/18/2004 12:25:25 AM)

As everyone is aware, the fact is you communicate online by typing your thoughts on a keyboard for others to read. Since they can't see you or hear you, the only impression they get from you is how well you communicate with your words.
Fairly or not, when I see a post with numerous misspellings or errors in grammar, it is very hard to take what they say seriously. Some of the postings here are so painful to read. If you are not a good speller, use a spellchecker. Proofread your postings before you submit them. It really cheapens whatever thought you may be trying to make when so many words are misspelled or sentences make no sense. In my opinion of course.[;)]

[8D]Ha! Mi nah evva worries bout inna fi hav bad tinks bout I an I.

Its a narrow mind that feels that words should be perfect when
the one whom writes them is far from it.

The English Language is used by 1/18th of the World with the other 17/18th
of it speaking and forming languages with sumthing other then English.
Vanity is way more unbecUMMING 2 Me then misspelled words or misset
sentance structure.

I take everyone seriously online whom takes the tiime out of their life to
have sumthing to say ( even you Estring ), regardless of how it looks but
then again, I am far from perfect My self.

da only ting Mi see CHEAP ere is da word unna put pon de tread uppa top. fi Mi tinkin.

I agree with you fully Sir. Like it or not, when people chose an online medium as the way they are going to communicate, then they are using the written words as their *clothing*. I am dyslexic myself, and if I do not use spell check, I am bound to have errors. Although English *is* my language, it was my worst subject because spelling was difficult and I know I make grammatical mistakes that spell check misses. Still, I try to always use it.

Not everyone cares about their *written* appearance. And that, of course, is their choose. But those that are not making occasional typo's, but are rather have posts that are chores to read to be the equivalent of those that sit in a restaurant with food dripping down their front. Sad, and even when amusing often overlooked because it makes you queasy to look to closely....

Sandy

As one who must start conversation with "I'm not drunk or retarded; I had a mild stroke," I've seen people who focus on how something is said instead of what is said.

I don't like having my speech judged because I stutter and slur. I refuse to judge someone for off hand typos in fleeting correspondence. When it is something permanent, say this or a webpage (or a profile:)) I wonder if they know they can cut and paste to a spell checker. (Note: highlight the text, hit cntrl-C, go to MS word [or whatever word processing software you have], hit cntrl-V, run spell check, highlight it, hit cntrl-C, go back to the text entry box, hit cntrl-V, and post [or "OK"].)

iwillserveu -> RE: Bad First Impression (2/29/2004 6:59:33 PM)

Wow! It doesn't happen very often outside of creative writing, but I actually agree with Dread![:)][:D]

(Just kidding, Dread. You know I love you in a platonic sense.[:)] Hell, if you were broken down on the side of the road I'd stop to help you and even let you use my spare tire if yours was flat. Besides, we senior members must look out for one another.[:)])

iwillserveu -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/2/2004 2:28:35 PM)

I have no face shot because I WILL get fired (or more specifically not get hired) if I'm a known "prevert". (Don't ask why I can't say, "What were you doing there?" just trust me on that, OK?:))

I assume I'm more like Grommit than Wallace, although I like cheese too.:) (That is Wallace and Grommit in the picture. Wallace is the human he is an inventor and window washer who likes cheese. Grommit is the smart one, but he doesn't talk because he is a dog.)

I talk like this. I talk reasonably N-N-Normal althou I do slah sometimes. I am not drun or retared I had a mild stroke.

One of the reasons I am here so much is I can type without slurring or stammering!:) (Ussuallll-l-l-ly.:))

MrKing -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/3/2004 7:04:31 AM)

Here's are download links to some important tools for Windows/iE that I've found and saved. One is a spellchecker that works IN text-entry boxes. The other is a spyware nuker program that is both amazingly good and free. Actually, both are free.

Let me know onsite if you like them, if you have favorite tools of your own to share, post them there - the engine is designed to link to the download site. Then feel free to link to it (admin, you too) - I'll let you know if there are bandwidth issues. :)

MistressKiss -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/17/2004 9:28:45 PM)

Estring, I know exactly what you mean. It makes me crazy to see grammatical errors and typos, too. What's worse is that I am an English Creative Writing graduate student, so I am very sensitive to it. Then the people I speak to get totally freaked out that they are going to misspell something! Usually I am the one to do it first, and sometimes I do it intentionally because I know it can be intimidating to have an online conversation with a creative writer. I can handle a mis-stroke once in a while, but you can truly read into a person's competence by watching this. The person may be a great person underneath the misspellings, but it does create a very poor first impression for me. That isn't to say it can't be retrieved, but I have found that people without a similar educational background have some trouble meshing in a relationship. It's not 100% gospel, just my own experience.

This is going to make me sound really anal (which isn't a bad thing) - my bestest chat buddy uses the correct number of ellipses in an online conversation. I KNEW I liked him! (laughs)

iwillserveu -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/18/2004 1:32:44 AM)

Don't you hate when people point out your typos in casual correspondence and say, "Hah, I caught you! As a writer you should know better!" My reply used to be, "Do you think accountants ever add 2+2 and come up with 5?" Now I just nod and move on.

Estring -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/18/2004 2:41:29 PM)

Some accountants do add 2+2 and get 5. They are the ones in jail.[:D]

skye -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/19/2004 10:07:04 PM)

Hello,

No matter what percentage of the world population spaeks Englsih. It *is* the standard language in the United States.
Any dom worth his salt should be able to demonstrate *mastery* of something as basic of his mother tongue. He should be *in control* of it. Anything less is simply pure slobbiness and no submissive should tolerate it.

Estring -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/19/2004 10:14:27 PM)

skye, I agree with what you say, but after reading your post, it is a good thing for you that you aren't a Dom.[:D]

iwillserveu -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/21/2004 2:06:27 AM)

skye,

No matter what you think of her otherwise, I assure you Dread usually spells better than that. She is just making a point.

BTW, be careful. You are critical of a Domme. Some people here will claim you are not submissive enough.[:D]

PS, Use a spellchecker to find yur tpyos.[:D] (Dread's mispellings were intentional like that.)

feline -> RE: Bad First Impression (3/21/2004 1:48:14 PM)

Mine isn't usually a spelling or grammer problem. It's a typing problem. LOL Typing is not my forte. [;)]

Unfortunately i always have this stronge desire to let someone know if they have misspelled something. i use to proof read for a past Dom of mine. [:)]
