Hi A/all

I was talking to a friend of mine who just started in this lifestyle....the question she asked me was if that lifestyle was possible for her......she has HVP, under treatment, but is afraid that she will not get a Dom/Master because of that.

Honestly, i didnt know what to say.....can A/anyone help?

Thank Y/you A/all

I think the situation would be the same for her whether the context were vanilla or BDSM.

Same as vanilla. Let potential partners know upfront. You'll lose some but the ones that are left will be more likely to stay long term .

Thank Y/you A/all

I don't mean to be ignorant but please what is HVP? Am assuming(danger zone) that it is a sexually transmitted desease, right? But what exactly? Thank you

Hi

HPV stands for human papillomavirus (genital warts), a sexually transmitted disease.

I'm assuming that the OP made a typo and meant to say HPV. You can read about it here.

Actually HVP stands for herpesvirus papio, which is a herpes strain specific to primates so she probably did mean HPV:

http://www.herpes.com/overview.shtml (This website has to do with the human herpes simplex viruses)

Hey, you can never be too informed on STDs

And here I was thinking HVP was just the German way of writing "height-weight proportionate."

You might cheer her up by letting her know she'll probably run into others with the same ailment. It sounds like she believes she's the only one with HPV. I'm sure she's not the only one. Good luck to her.

Well, most people who would like to be in a sexual relationship who have an STD will get involved with others who are in the same situation. There are many support groups out there who allow people with STD's to have chat and get to know others in the same boat.

She can still be in the life style. After all, there are trainers and Doms who will still give her sessions and lessions with out envolving sex. She can still make many friends in the life style and be very envolved.

Best luck and wishes to your friend. I think she'll be fine.

Be sure to encourage her to get regular (yearly) PAP smears as well, because HPV increases the risk of cervical cancer significantly.

I know exactly how she is feeling. But something like 80% of women carry it and of them only about half know they have it. It has different strains and is different for different people.

Thank You Sir......about the support groups, would You happen to know where she could search for them, please? My friend and i were surfing the net and trying to find a group in Canada and i think we are still stuck in the *ice age* since we couldnt find any groups.

Like You said, i have told her that if she can get someone in the same situation as her, sometimes it seems easier to share and discuss with someone in her situation. I do try to cheer her up, but she can't seem to shake it up. I feel bad for her...........anyway, thank You.

Be well

Having worked (in a non medical function) in a histology/cytology lab that deals with pap smears, etc I learned a bit about this disease. The major point on HPV is that new information, research, grants, treatments, etc, are coming out every month for this much studied virus - that is receiving a lot of research attention. (this is good news! ) Also, in the near future for the rest of us a possible vaccine is on the way, I’m told.

Please note, HPV has several strains, some more contagious and\or pre-cancerous than others. What this means is, if party ‘A’ has HPV as does party ‘B’, it is possible that the two have completely different strains of HPV. Thus they could possibly give each other the others different strain. For a quick listing of recognized major strains see: http://www.stanford.edu/group/virus/papova/HPV.html

Please, seek advice, diagnoses and treatment information from your medical doctor. I’m NOT a medical doctor, I'm a layperson and I do not offer any medical advice.

So all this said, people a few years back were forming dating forums for people with HPV thinking, "hey I already have this and so do they, so we are safe...", not exactly so, now that further research has come out you both could have completely different strains.

It is possible to have HPV DNA type tested. This will hopefully give a better idea of what strain of HPV it is. The test is a bit expensive. More information here:
http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/hpv/test.html

The interesting news is that many people have HPV and live with it everyday. Additionally, most men do not know they have it all... Scary as that is - all the more reason to practice safely...

As far as BDSM goes… Well several of the activities within the BDSM realm are very non-intercourse and fetish wear friendly. Meaning that you can be very sexual in BDSM without having private parts skin-2-skin rubbing and bumping… Additionally BDSM is very rubber and vinyl fetish clothing friendly. Providing multiple barriers of fun… All kidding aside, HPV is very livable. Take sometime to read up, make a list of questions and ask your doctor any questions you have.

Another good resource for information about living with an STD and dating would be your local Planned Parenthood. Some centers have counseling available for just these types of relationship and disease type questions. They are also another source of information on HPV.

Unfortunately the internet is both a blessed and cursed when it comes to medical information as some of it is just plain wrong, outdated or a scam. Again, your medical doctor is the best likely source of information.
