Missokyst -> Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 11:54:44 AM)

Ok.. this isn't really an ask for advice sort of question since it really isn't a problem for me but..
Do any of you have really odd menstral cycles?  I ask because I am.. or should be, entering menopause but I have no way of telling whether I am or not.
For most of my life my cycles have been somewhat regular.. well... for me that means 3 periods a year if I have a sexual partner in my life.  And times like now, when I have no partner I have no period.  I don't get cramps, don't have long periods (when they do come), I do not get those irritable mood swings, ect that I see other women complain of.  When I do get the check ups down below I am always told I am asymtomatic, but that nothing is wrong, everything looks pink and healthy.
The only time I am even remotely regular is when there is a man in my life.  Otherwise I don't have periods unless I am under extreme stress.
I can't be the only woman out there with this strange condition.  Oh, and to clarify it further, this irregularity began when I was 25, in great shape and used to dance for a living.

LOL count yourself blessed  when you start entering menopause you likely start experiencing night sweats/hot flashes this can begin several years even prior to your menstural cycle stopping, though most will experience closer to the end,   my menstruals actually increased in length of time in perio  to 3 weeks out of every month with one week extremely heavy, stayed like that for 6 or 7 years before drifting farther apart .  Some women will end in their  early 40's while others into their late 50's , if think around 50 to 52 is the most common age

I am sure others will have different experience to post about

this slave hasn't had a "normal" cycle, "average" experience, or "typical" month...since the ripe old age of 11.

DomMeinCT -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 12:38:40 PM)

Yes, I'm told the same....that the increased mood swings, pain the first day, and longer cycles (in other words, alll types of irregularities) are "normal" as you move into mid-40s.

Some months, "normal" really sucks.  lol

Missokyst -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 1:10:55 PM)

Whew.. at least I am not alone in this.  The beginning of my irregularity started when I was 12, but didn't full out change until I was 20.  There was a nearly a decade there where I had no period, what so ever.

kyraofMists -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 2:18:07 PM)

Until about my mid 20's I had text book menstrual cycles.  Since then I have had very different cycles.  While on certain birth controls, I may have no period for months.  When I was sick and gained a lot of weight from medication I stopped having a period as well and was put back on birth control so I would start having one.

For the last couple of years, my periods last for about 36 hours.  I may spot a day or two before or after that 36 hours, but that is it.  On the other hand, I can be very moody (which I have made great strides in learning to recognize and control), sore back, cramps, extremely tired and my face breaks out.  The stress of the move and having a chest cold for three weeks has made all those symptoms worse this month.

I am like beth in this regard......unexpected and different is my "normal". I've just learned to roll with it.

fluffyswitch -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 4:37:03 PM)

i've never been regular and most likely won't ever be, knowing my family history. and luckily for me my hormones are so out of whack it triggers my mental health concerns, making me one of the lucky few to actually have been told by their gyno that they PMS. stress always makes it fun too, some months i'm really late other months i'm really early, or i'll spot, or do something else totally out of whack with my 'normal' cycle.

Tantriqu -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 5:36:05 PM)

I only have regular cycles when I don't have a man.  When I do, they come anywhere from 14-20 days from the first day of one to the first day of the next; the better the sex, the shorter the cycle.  Damned evolution, trying to knock Me up!!

Missokyst -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 5:43:12 PM)

LOL... wow thats a nice one to have!

Rayne58 -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 10:42:36 PM)

I was on the pill for a lot of my reproductive years, first to control excruciating period pain.  When I stopped it to become pregnant it took 18 months of hell - my cycles were regular (28-30 days) but very painful.  After my first was born the pain was gone thank god!  I had a second nearly 5 years later and was on the pill for over 10 years before I got my tubes tied at 40.  Then bang I had 21 day cycles and the bleeding gradually got heavier.  At around 43 I began to skip periods mainly due to stress but I had a lot of heavy bleeding and clots when they finally did come and they'd last for 10 days....so I went back on the pill and have been on it now for the last 4 years.

I have been disgnosed with a fibroid which causes some flooding now and again but my cycles are regular as clockwork and I can tweak them if necessary by taking more or less active pills.  My blood pressure is excellent, I don't smoke and I have regular check ups.  The doctor seems happy for me to remain on it and I'm happy to as well - I like knowing when I'm due almost down to the hour [:D]

I'm actually dreading the day I have to stop taking it [&o]

laurell3 -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/10/2008 10:43:57 PM)

I think everyone's different.  I used to be like clockwork now sometimes I have two per month.  I'll trade you any day!!!

Sabella -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/11/2008 4:48:57 AM)

This subject has come up several times, I can't recommend What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Premenopause (Paperback)
by M.D., John R. Lee enough. He's also written a book about Menopause as well that may be helpful to those of you going thru the change.

I'm with the "never had a normal cycle since age 12" as well. Sometimes twice a month, sometimes months between them. Annoying but not worrisome until after having my tubes tied & being on Depo for 5 years. THEN they were horrific, radical mood swings, excruciating pain often starting right after ovulation, and still as irregular as ever.

In a very skimpy nutshell (DO read the book for tons of info on foods and additives to avoid, life stressers ect that can also effect you) the basis is that it's most often estrogen dominance that causes these problems. Not only does our body produce estrogen and progesterone in a natural ebb and flow depending on the time of the month - but the animal products we consume are now loaded with them. Meat animals are fed copious amounts of estrogen to make them grow faster - what used to take 8-9 months to raise a full sized chicken they are now growing in less than 4 months, nearly the same ratio is for cattle and hogs as well.

In eating these over-estrogened animals and their by products (milk, cheese) as well as any soy products (which are found now in EVERYTHING and also boost estrogen) our body's natural rhythm of the estrogen/progesterone balance is severely skewed.

There are progesterone cremes - not the wild yam - he has lists of acceptable ones along with as many dietary and stress inducer changes that you can add to your arsenal to help your body get back into balance.

The difference, for me, was nothing short of miraculous.

Used with Evening Primrose Oil (for painful cramps or tender breasts) it's been a win/win combination.

Lashra -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/11/2008 5:09:54 AM)

I have always been irregular, one period a year maybe two was the "norm" for me up until 4 years ago which oddly enough is when I met my present submissive. Now I have periods every month and on time. My GYN Is a bit baffled by this, she can't explain it and now that Im reaching the age of menapause she says it makes even less sense.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps its a coincidence or maybe my sub provides/stimulates some body chem in me that I was lacking before. I don't know its wierd but it is nice knowing when they will come. [:)]

Missokyst -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/11/2008 6:06:40 AM)

This is something I have considered since if I have a sexual partner in my life, I become less irregular.  I have researched it abit but haven't found any data regarding pheremones or anything similar.  But it looks like my body chemicals are not as unusual as I thought since more than a few women have contacted me about the lack of a regular cycle.  I guess irregularity is not so irregular.  <g> perhaps it is not as widely known because those that must suffer through monthly agony wouldn't want to know there are so many who do not.

I, too have irregular cycles.
They are better now.

In my case, they were likely caused by "insulin resitance" as 2 1/2 yrs ago I discovered that I am diabetic.

this slave doesn't think that is the case.  "regular", "normal", "typical" are words used in the medical community for a few reasons.  one of them is to sell toxic pharmaceuticals.

this slave was given birth control pills to "regulate" or lessen the 9 day bloodbath and excrutiating torment she went through each month only to have every increase of dosage increased the symptoms.  when it got ridiculous---3 weeks of bloodbath & whatnot and one week off, they decided synthetic hormones, although "typically" regulate and lessen a "regular" cycle of a "normal" woman, this slave wasn't in that majority.

this slave believes, and it has been substantiated, her hormonal issues and reproductive tract abnormalities were caused by the mega-dosing of synthetic estrogen given to her in utero in the form of Diethylstilbestrol(DES).  back in the day when it was legal for Doctors to inject it, or lace prenatal vitamins with it, pregnant women who had suffered miscarriages were promised "regular", "normal", "typical" babies.

"Better living through chemistry", eh?[;)]

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/11/2008 12:34:56 PM)

Ok, I fall into the same catagory as some ; I started young, at 12 and for a few years it was irregula, then it was fine, then I got pregnant and after that it went wacko for years.  For the last 4 or 5 months, they were very regular, I would know when I would start down to the hour, that was AFTER I stopped birthcontrol pills, cold turkey.  My cycle is a bit 'off' at the moment due to stress [my partner is away on duty for a few more weeks], so stress is a factor; once I get blood tests back on the 22nd, I KNOW I will be put on some 'brilliant' medication to 'fix' my migraines and when I add or change any medications or vitamins, it throws my body for a loop again.

christine1 -> RE: Irregular cycles (1/11/2008 6:54:15 PM)

i am in "early menopause" whatever that means exactly.  i've started having hot flashes and the really flushed face that goes along with it, my coworkers tell me i look like a sunburned albino lol.  i've never been regular, but now it is ridiculous.  the last several months have been more on than off.  my last period lasted 9 weeks and finally the doc gave me a D&C because i was becoming so anemic.  sometimes it is a spotting, sometimes it is niagra falls and the two things can happen within days of each other....it is frustrating to say the least but i'm learning to "go with the flow", so to speak.

I was like this until my late 20s. It was awful. I would go months without a period and then all of a sudden be doubled over in pain and then would come the bleeding that just laughed at the "super" pads and tampons.
Then, although I was told by medical doctors that I "didnt ovulate" (wanna bet?), I somehow got pregnant and viola, smooth sailing ever since. They aren't as regular as some people's (got rhythm?), but I got them monthly as soon as my first UM was weaned.
