I just went to check out the site, I didn't take the time to check the prices, but the site DOES have a BUNCH of pop-ups, and also hijacks the browser (changes starting page) and also installs a "toolbar" on your browser, I just had to use Ad-Aware to remove the "add on". So careful if you go to that site.

I hate to say this but that is UNTRUE! I never put pop-ups or any kind of links that cause hijacking of a browser on any page or link I submit! I don't know where you went to, but it was not that site! I am very offended!

Has anyone else had this type of problem? I have never had anyone tell me this before! If anyone has this type of problem, please let me know IMMEDIATELY!

Yesterday when that happened I had no other IE window open besides collarme.com then when I checked the link all those pop ups showed up. I used Ad-Aware (I do it weekly) last night, and just now I tried your link again, this time with no pop ups. Perhaps I had something in my registry I was unaware of and when I opened the link it somehow activated. Either way there are no pop ups this morning, so I have to assume it wasn't your site doing it, my apology for assuming your site was the cause.

Well I hate to say it.. but after I went there this morning I was hijacked. My new homepage was set to www.findthewebpageyouneed.com .

I had nothing else open, am going to run adaware and clear out whatever was there.

I was nowhere else but collarme. I have no explanations as to how this happened.

No accusations being made here. Just providing some information for those that may run into a browser hijacker in the future... regardless of the source.

This is a link to some details on a common browser hijack - TROJ_IEFEATS.A

Ad-aware alone should take care of the problem, and more easily than the steps provided in the above link... but sometimes some pieces can be left behind.

If you have any concerns, try running this after doing Ad-aware - Housecall - In my case Norton didn't pick anything else up, but this scanner found a couple more files. They weren't any big deal, but this got rid of them anyway.

There are other programs like "Hijack This!" etc. that can be looked into if the problem is worse, but anyone trying it should watch what they are doing.

I'm no expert in these things, just someone who had to take care of the problem once before. I'm sure others in the community know far more.

BTW... Ad-aware 6.0 - Downloads - Freeware Version.

Well jsut to clear the air... some browser trojans are triggered by other sites... it does not mean that the site that you went to had installed the trojan in question... it just means that it is possible that you went to a site previous that installed this trojan and left it running silently in the background... then when you went to my site, the trojan may have been triggered. I swear my sites are absolutely bug and error free and DO NOT install any kind of illegal or malicious trojan software. I do not condone such behavior and would never submit a link or a site for viewing unless I was absolutely sure of it myself. If you view the technical details of that particular trojan:

quote:

Installation

Upon execution, this memory-resident Trojan drops the following files in the folder Documents and Settings\%Current User%\Application Data\iefeatsl:

IEFEATSL.DLL - detected as TROJ_IEFEATS.A
MSIESH.DLL - also detected as TROJ_IEFEATS.A
(Note: %Current User% is the logon name of the current user.)

The said .DLL files are Browser Helper Objects (BHO), which automatically executes once the Internet browser opens.

Autostart Technique

It creates the following registry entry to execute itself at every system startup:

Which basically are saying that the program or trojan will not execute until the browser or system are restarted. Which means... that the trojan DID NOT come from my site, but somewhere else.

With that settled, my site does offer many good prices on leather appearal that are worth looking into.

Ran a Trojan hunter, and housecall twice. Found nothing.

BUT while the Trojan hunter was running I saw a strange file.. C:\file9999.chk

So after the Trojan hunter was finished I ran the file thru google.. and came up with this.. http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=JAVA_NEEDY.A

So I ran Housecall again.. this time it was found as worm_apsiv.a non cleanable, but I was able to delete it.

I do not understand why the Trojan hunter never found it, or why Housecall did not pick it up the first two scans.

But I think it's gone now. I have been to the above sight a couple times since and my homepage has not changed.

Maybe because your site is in java that is what triggered it.. I don't know.

As I said before, I don't know where it came from or how it happened, but it's gone now...:)

Viri and Trojans are nasty things and I'm so glad it's cleared up that my site was not the cause of such. Nothing can hurt a website more then being accused of being a virus or trojan implanter. That's why it shocked me so much when Collar4U first announced that the site instaled a virus on their system... I've been going back and forth to that site for months and have never had any problems. But you are right, it's possible that I am using a java command that is triggering that virus to do it's thing. For the life of me I don't know what it is. But in a way it's a good thing that it discovered them installed on your systems now before it did any real damage. You don't want to know what I was doing to try and figure out if my site had some kind of viri or if it were hacked. I kept bringing up my source code, and checking the server logs trying everything to see if maybe someone had gotten in and done something, but found nothing. It was like trying to find a pin in a stack of needles. Anyway, you don't know how happy I am to learn that it wasn't my site that was causing the problem.
