S&M very much seems a vehicle to me. On that same vein though I don't think 'destroying you into a new person' is at all quite the sentiment I would hope for. One person does the hurting, the other gets hurt. Through the exchange I would hope both evolve and grow, not become destroyed in any sense at all. One's fears, and boundaries may be destroyed, but hopefully not the person.

As for emotional masochism, in the regard I understand it, it all too often leads to unhealthy results and a great deal of depression. Physical pain leaves marks that heal on their own. Emotional hurts are not as easy to heal, the psyche doesn't always heal up immediately like the body does.

Either way, I wish you the best in your search for fulfillment.

Being "destroyed into new person" is more of an expression.

I don't mean that literally, I mean that metaphorically.[:-]

Kind of like the way you feel when you come out of the shower, only I want it over, and over, and over, and over...

Unfortunately internet forums come across as literal and not metaphoric. I understand what you mean though. Would the problem not be that sooner or later you reach a point where nothing has an effect ? I wonder what would happen to your, or anyones, motivation when we find what we seek ? Is there not a need to keep just a little bit of mystery about it all ?

Personally although i have questioned why i enjoy BDSM, i have also come to accept  " Just because " as a valid answer. It may not be a satisfactory answer for some, i just ask myself  " Does this all need justification, or do i just enjoy it "
