ToysAndTies -> Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:00:48 PM)

Hello, I just wanted to find out a bit more about sleep deprivation as it applies to lifestyle activities. I know in extreme sleep studies when people are deprived for days, they start hallucinating, the mind plays tricks, reactions and responses change...I was wondering, has anyone experimented with this as a top or a bottom?

Cheers,

T&T

"experimented" with it? No......Lived with it? Yes....LOL....Although, i'm pretty convinced He is almost more frustrated by it than i am at this point...

It would go nicely with an interrogation scene.

christine1 -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:04:24 PM)

as i experience insomnia a few times a year...i  have to say, the only way i'd willingly go for it is under the demands and control of a dominant that i was serving...interesting thought you bring up.

Bound2One -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:05:44 PM)

No, we haven't experimented with sleep deprivation.  My first thought, though, was that this could border on dangerous if the Dom didn't know what he/she was doing.  I suffer from insominia a few days a month and I can be a lunatic with only 3 hours sleep - it affects my whole being, and never in a good way.

ToysAndTies -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:06:01 PM)

Yes, I had a cruel Mistress forcing me to be sleep deprived for four years.  I call her Lady GPA.  But now that that's done, I want to see if under controlled circumstances sleep deprivation can be a positive thing.

topcat -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:08:16 PM)

It take some skill in sleeping to be able to pull it off (yes, there is such a thing as skilled sleeping!) and some clever timing, but if you can keep them from getting more than an few 40 minute naps over the course of 48 hrs, you will find anyone becomes very compliant and suggestible. Trick is being able to get enough sleep yourself to be able to take advantage of it...

Sounds like the perfect scenario for tag-team topping!

There is a huge amount of research on this as it has been a widely used form of torture. See for example the first volume of Solzhenitsyn's classic on Stalinist prisons, "The Gulag Archipelago". He calls it one of the most severe and effective forms of torture.

As Topcat says, it seems to be a tough thing for one person to do though. According to the books, the most standard ways of doing it require people working in shifts and observing the "prisoner" so they can burst in and wake them up if they close their eyes. Another way to do it is to lock a person in a room so small they cannot sit or lie down, but that has some real dangers for extended periods.

No I haven't but you might be interested in this new drug that reverses the effects of sleep deprivation.

I notice that, even just among friends, in relationships, late in parties etc, as people start to get tired, they are more open to suggestion.  That's true; I didn't take into account how I could put someone else in that state without exhausting myself.  Maybe five or six different alarm clocks with different sounds, so the person's body doesn't get used to one and tune it out.

christine1 -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:38:53 PM)

okay, so i have to ask:  why would a dominant want to do this to his/her submissive?  i'm not being judgemental at all, i'm just curious...not trying to hijack the thread either.

ToysAndTies -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 9:48:36 PM)

I'd heard it mentioned somewhere that people in a state of exhaustion almost are in a dream state, like they aren't sure if they're awake or not, different pistons in the brain firing and whatnot.  I want to find out more about it, or even attempt it from the exhaustee side before determining if it's something I want to work into play.  If it does nothing for / to me as a bottom, I wouldn't enjoy it as a top.

ItalianSMistress -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 10:10:40 PM)

I have played with this a few times, one of the best ways I find to exhause the slave is by starting it as a day that the two of you have not done too much, so the slave is not completly tired by night.  Make sure they are drinking a high caffene drink, and give them a long physical task to complete over night while you sleep.  Such as scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush, and have an egg timer set so when it goes off every half hour or so, they have to have another drink, and push ups or something similar to keep the slave awake.  Once you wake up, the slave is already exhusted and you are fresh, then you can start your interrigation or whatever you want to do.  Even if you go only another 16-24 hours, they are already a night behind in sleep.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 10:34:06 PM)

I was sleep deprived once..inadvertently...for 2 days...all I could do was get dizzy and barf..get dizzy and barf..get........dizzy....and....snore..............................Tempt...............ting.....!

christine1 -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 10:58:13 PM)

i would think that in a state of exhaustion i would cry very easily...actually, i know i would lol...especially if being interrogated.

CalifChick -> RE: Sleep deprivation (1/11/2008 11:07:45 PM)

I just cannot imagine anything positive with sleep deprivation.  My first real symptom other than yawning and being tired is slurring.  I start sounding like I've had a bit too much to drink.  Next is inability to form coherent thoughts and word searching.  Following that is problems with balance.  Then hallucinations.  If it continues, "word salad" comes next - you are using words but not the ones you wanted, and you usually don't realize it.  If a headache isn't already present, it would arrive about now.

Dream state?  Well, I would say altered consciousness, yes, but dream state, no.

greetings toysandties,

count me in the "not sure why someone would WANT to" camp, and probably my master as well. i am fatigued all of the time due to health issues, and i also have difficulties with insomnia, so usually we're trying to figure out the best ways to GET me to sleep, not keep me up! lol. i suppose i can see the interrogation purposes, but that's never really been our kink, to tell the truth. it would probably be more feasible if i did not have work, school, etc. to be responsible for and we had a week or two to experiment with it then get my body back to "normal" for me. i'm curious to read more about this though as it's something i haven't really heard much about in relation to bdsm.

respectfully,
annabelle.

Dont you see how that would be exciting or entertaining for a Dom/me?  I love sleep dep play.  Also, want to say, that most do cry easy during this time, but, then again, I rather like crying,,,,,,

I'm not going to say this kink is wrong for anybody except for me.  LOL.  Might as well go with rohypnol or something, would be faster and less mentally "messy".  Getting that far into sleep deprivation takes days to recover from. And it seems to me as if it would be playing with someone with a substantially less-than-average IQ (that's how I get anyway, and my normal IQ is, well, higher than "normal").  Maybe it wouldn't be so mentally messy if it doesn't go as far as I described.

Again, just MY perception.
