I'm curious as to why the op thinks religion is a cure-all for alcoholism, which is the problem in his coworker's relationship. Having been married to an alcoholic, I speak from what I know.

Oh, yeah, forgot. Be glad he didn't report you to HR for proselytizing because most places don't permit that.

Steps 2 and 3: Alcoholics Anonymous

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3.
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

And, once again, to anyone who might have actually READ my post, "Parker" broke the ice by giving Yours Truly the nitty-gritty on his sex life, thus, giving me free reign to proselytize all I wanted, WITHOUT the fear of a Human Resources firing squad.

Not to nitpick (putting on HR hat), Tre, but Parker opening the door does not make it okay to try and convert him to Christianity. Kinda like a woman wearing a short skirt does not make it okay to sexually harass her.

Maybe encourage him to try Step #1 first...then try Steps 2 and 3.

When the Jehova's Witnesses come to my apartment, I never quite feel I'm being harrassed in any way, shape or form.  I invite them in, offer my guests some sweet tea, and LISTEN to what they have to say.

We've got hordes of young, naive, impressionable kids being blown up in Iraq because of their misconceptions about joining the military, (Wow, I can get a free education, and my recruiter says I don't even have to go over there!!) and people in the good ol' U.S. of A have the NERVE to chide others for trying to save their souls by non-violent persuasion!!

Don't get me wrong folks.........I can't stand homophobic, woman-oppressing, right-wing nutjobs either, but I'll be damned if I'd be annoyed by anybody who tried to make sure I made it through to the other side safe and sound.

Hmmmm....I been away for a bit...but the aging Emperor brain still remembers "TreSwank" of the army T-shirt who boasted about drinking himself insensible, about whoring himself out to all and sundry, and who had a pretty nasty tongue and a quick temper when people told HIM what to do...and now he/she/it has converted, found the light, and we are supposed to take his prostelization to heart and feel for him?   And I note that "TreSwank" or "KRANWEST" it is still ALL ABOUT HIM...not about the supposed subject matter.

Threads on religion often lead to nastiness...but in this case, when its just bait for attention, who cares?

E.

By the way, my religion?   I'm a Nazi Quaker.   Every Friday night I declare war, and every Saturday morning I refuse to serve.

Emperor,

I've done my best to change my life, and God came through in His Omnipotence and Mercy.

Not only have I quite smoking, but nowadays, I RARELY see the inside of a bar, which I couldn't do had I relied on "my own" willpower.  All I wanted to do was share my blessing with Parker, who was obviously working through his own "dark night of the soul".

Hmmm..originally Parker non consensually related his sex life, you in turn, non consensually expressed your religious views. Therefore this insinuates two wrongs make a right. I don't think so!

Every workday, "Parker" sits in the seat adjacent to my own in the employee cafeteria, and relates the lurid details of a capsized marriage.

"I only get fucked once every few months, and she's sooooo domineering.

I admitedly did not read the entire thread......but you missed to point here. you should have lead him in another direction. " Parker have you ever considered going home  getting on your knees and saying "" this slave lives to please you""?" that might have been more positive....................................................

If that's true, shouldn't Native Americans have been 1,500 years ahead of Europeans at contact?

True. If memory serves, one of the things that helped Cortes conquer Mexico was that other tribes sided with him, figuring the Spaniards couldn't possibly be worse than the Aztec.
