Try looking for books or websites on Shibari (artistic Japanese rope bondage -- feels incredible too!) as well as sites or books on knots. It's a good idea to get a fairly wide nylon rope as these feel better against the skin and won't cut into the flesh as much. I think there is a site called rainbowrope (someone who knows, please provide the link) that's well known for good ropes for BDSM play. I'm not certain, but they may also have books on it on their website as well.

Good luck!

There is an excellent book on this subject: The Erotic Bondage Handbook by Jay Wiseman. It's available in bookstores, online and from www.greenerypress.com the publisher.

Jay is a highly skilled bondage artist and a safety expert.

If your interests are in artistic bondage, you should look for Midori's Japanese Bondage. It's a bit pricey but the color pictures are worth it. It's also from Greenery.

Rainbow rope is wonderful..I have had the pleasure of being tied up with some of that rope..It's beautiful, sturdy and comfortable. It comes in all kinds of colors..This should be the link.. www.rainbowrope.com ...

I agree with John, both Midori and the Jay Wiseman books are great for your purposes..

Good luck and enjoy!

Respectfully,
sultry

The "right amount" is the amount that turns you and your sub on. Some people like complex "Japanese" type bondage that takes hours to finish while others just like a few loops around the wrists.

For ideas I recommend Jay Wiseman's Erotic Bondage Handbook

Fetish Diva Midori has the best beginner rope bondage book out there in my opinion. As far as rope is concerned, I use 6 and 8 mm hemp. But that's a tad unforgiving for a beginner. Your best bet is 1/2" or 5/8" cotton rope. Or if you score braided rope, you can pull the core out of it and be left with a flat rope that spreads over a large area.

If you're not all that interested in learning rope bondage, but want very secure restraint, duct tape can be lots of fun. Use an under layer such as shrink wrap or paper towels to keep it from damaging bare skin.

Rope is nice, but there is a satisfying finality about the click, click, click of handcuffs.

The biggest problem about handcuffs is that they are designed to cause injury to anyone who struggles in them. There have been many cases of nerve damage in people who have been handcuffed.

Also, you should remember to double lock the cuffs so they can't tighten further.

I've found that rubber tape is a very effective bondage tool. It has no adhesive and sticks only to itself

Hi Ma'am. Welcome to the group. I love to be tied in rope, and Nylon is the best. My MADAM also had me wash it some too, to soften it up. I did get to wash "MY" rope a few times, but not enought to soften it up all the way. I used one of those Mesh Bags, to keep the rope from tangling with the agitator..the Washing Machines, and not the Sub.

She had me get 75' and cut 6 lengths @12' and had a 3' piece for small things....OUCH...which I made into Rope Handcuffs. If you cut your own Nylon Rope, seal the ends, to prevent them from fraying....I used a match. Some hardware stores even have a soldering gun, to cut and seal the ends in one step....but I haven't worked at a hardware store in 15 years.

I also like to use the Leather Wrist ad Ankle Ciffs now..quicker and easier than the rope, and not as HARD as the Handcuffs..which I would rather have on the Ankles, against Nylon socks....but that's a whole other matter....*smile*

Good Luck and Always have fun, BalletBob

Someone

As a confirmed knot geek, I would suggest that while knots are fun in their own way and can definitely enhance rope bondage, they are really secondary to being able to do rope bondage. The only truely essential knot is a square knot. If you can tie a square knot, you have the knot tying skill needed to do rope bondage.

I do a lot of suspension ties and it is my opinion that treated hemp rope is the ultimate cordage for bondage. Natural fiber ropes have the best knot holding ability and hemp is at the top of the heap. That being said, not everybody is willing to shell out several hundred dollars for bondage rope. Get what you can justify spending the money on and learn to work within its limitations. The important thing is to gain the experience tying. Find one of the books that are recommended in this thread, read up on safety concerns first of all, then start with the more simple limb ties, and work your way into more complex ties as your skill increases.

Bear in mind that rope bondage, and particularly suspension bondage is one of the highest risk activities that we in the BDSM community engage in. Learn safety first and take all necessary precautions. It's very easy to seriously damage or kill somebody with rope.

Ma'am, check out www.bondageuniversity.com. Also I concur with earlier posters; anything by Wiseman is excellent.
