Level -> Obama's stimulus package proposal (1/13/2008 3:11:29 PM)

quote:

Amid growing worries about a worsening of the U.S. economy, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proposed a $75 billion economic stimulus plan on Sunday that includes worker tax credits, a one-time pension supplement and help to homeowners facing foreclosure.

The plan would include an immediate $250 tax credit for workers, which could double if the economy worsens, a one-time $250 supplement to Social Security payments, a $10 billion fund to help homeowners facing foreclosure and a $10 billion fund to assist states facing budget shortfalls amid lower tax revenues.

"We need that middle-class tax cut now more than ever -- not five months from now or five weeks from now, but now," Obama said in a statement. "I'm announcing a plan to jump-start the economy by putting money in the pockets of those who need it most and will spend it quickly."

The economy wont improve if the Democrats raise taxes which is what they want to do....raising taxes at this point will only stunt economic growth.

Giving people money through tax credits will NOT increase spending with the way the economy is today. People who get that money will either use it to pay off some debt or will save it. In other words, it will not do anything to improve the economy as a whole.

If we need it now, why doesn't the Senator, introduce some legislation.  Why do we have to wait untill he takes office as President?   Should that be intrepreted as him thinking his career is more important than jump starting the economy?

Why does a picture of someone being thrown a cheerio for a life preserver come to mind, when I read this story? [8|]

Getting out of these rediculous "trade" deals and stopping "Outsourcing" will stimulate the economy tremendously.

I read the entire thing.

(I wasn't stimulated at all).

<sighs> ... Vote for me, I'm proposing new and improved band-aids.

If Bush captured the Presidency under the slogan '' I’m uniter not a divider '', wouldn’t/shouldn’t OBama’s message of the ‘’politics of hope’’ be construed as a very empty platitude? [8|]

While it's something....It's going to take a lot more than hope---or for that matter his stimulus package---to fix what's looming.

Where does he plan on getting the twenty billion (and that's not counting the $250.00 x every social security recipient)?
