For a beginner in anal play, what butt plug is best? Perferable to one that can be worn during the day, comfertably. Also, I have not gone beyond anal beads, so any tips? Safety and so forth?

What other ass play gear do you like out there? Would love to know what others use.

You may have to experiment a bit. There are many variations out there. If you've not ventured past beads, then I would suggest that sizing may take a little time to get right for you, esp. if you plan to wear this during the day. Personally, I've found that my needs/desires around this have changed, and an interest in bigger is now predominant.

Take a look at the reviews on Jane's Guide. The reviewer there is also female and that may help (my male perspective always suggests the Aneros as a starting point, but that doesn't make any sense for women). Another useful source of reviews is Orgasm Army.

Given the cost, I guess I would also say start cheap to get a sense of fit.

start small, seriously, buy the small medium and large doc johnson plugs. different plugs have very different feelings and comfort levels with different people.
i would recomend a more gradual taper and longer neck(area between the widest part of the plug, and part that does not go inside you). this will allow your anal muscles to relax making for a more comfortable day wearing plug
