I forgot I have a gyno appointment tomorrow and had a pretty heavy play session with both Master and Mistress a couple of days ago. My butt is quite markedly bruised - I am going to be horribly embarrassed if he/she asks about it!

Are doctors these days kink aware? I hope so!

Definitely not all doctors are kink-aware.... and even if they are.. not all are kink-friendly.

Hopefully your doctor will be! *gentle smile* Depending on the level of bruising, even if your doctor really isn't kink-friendly it probably won't be a big deal... i suppose if your bottom is terribly black and blue and you are really nervous... you can always phone your doctor and reschedule the appointment (you can say your period started... as they can't do a Pap while you're on your period they'll probably recommend you reschedule since you'd have to come in again anyways for the Pap).

Maybe you should mention the cause of the bruising before your doctor even sees it? Especially if it's exteme... just to kind of warm'em. *smiles*

Anyway.. hope all goes well!

I suggest you explain that you are taking martial arts lessons. Remember that in some states, doctors are mandated reporters. They HAVE to report any instance of suspected abuse to the authorities.

I live in Australia so not sure what the policy is here.

It's not severe bruising but enough to be noticeable. I spoke to Mistress today (she is in the nursing profession) and she suggested if they ask that I just say it was consensual play and leave it at that. She didn't think there would be a problem and she should know I guess

There is an excellent book available called Health Care Without Shame: A Handbook for the Sexually Diverse and Their Caregivers
by Charles Moser, Ph.D., M.D.

Also to find kink aware doctors you could check The Kink Aware Professionals list at http://www.bannon.com/kap/

I don't remember where I read this, but it seemed like a good explanation to me:

"It is the foreseeable result of consentual adult activity."

Not an excuse one would stammer out right away. The phrasing indicates you were aware of the potential results of the activity and that you consented to the activity.

One other thing I read about it...if you're not sure how your doc is going to take it, don't identify your partner(s) until you know if your doc is kink-aware.

Master told me to just be honest if they asked, but they didn't - never mentioned it. The only thing he talked about was my purple belly bar

I will be more careful next time I have to go to any doctor, or anywhere where bruises could be seen (the swimming pool or gym for example).

I work with a woman who sometimes has really visible bruises at quite significant places. And I suppose Germany has some really hard laws on abusing (considering how many women I know are getting a divorce with just a hint of abusement).

And guess what? None even said a word about her bruises so far. I think one should give people a credit of being much smarter and less busybody than we actually think they are.
