congrats shorty, best wishes for success in school.  you're on your way to a better life, you deserve better than to live with that abuse, it's mental and emotional abuse if not physical.  and the wheelchair shouldn't stop anyone if they truly care about you, the person.  you wear the chair like some people wear shoes, that's how i look at mine.  it's like wearing glasses, i use it, but it doesn't define who i am.

I agree so totally with this. Whatever your reason for being on wheels, it is what it is, and it doesn't change the esential YOU that inhabits the body. I tell people, "My  leg is gone, part of my eyesight is gone, but my mind - my intellect and my emotion - are till intact." You are to be commended for getting on with your life. The blocking of contact, Al-Anon, and going back to chool - thee are all great strides forward. And your mother sounds like a wonderful woman; listen to her.

I have learned that the grieving process is not something you go through only when someone dies; anytime you lose something - a person, a limb, your health, a relationship - you grieve. Let yourself grieve and go through the process, remembering that the last step is THRIVING - being at peace with the situation and being willing to help others through the same thing.

Good luck in your studies and in putting things together. And give your mom a hug for me.

Beth

I agree with the majority here. Once a dom knows how to get inside your head, it's easy for him to get to you. Unfortunately, the thing that makes the best doms, can become a weapon. All you can do is try to eliminate contact.

I'm sorry about your situation. My actual father is an alcoholic, and nobody desrves the kind of treatment that drunks tend to dish out.
