As everyone who has read the rules of the forum knows, Ads are only allowed on the collarme.com side of the site. But just what does make something an ad?

I suppose it would be soliciting responses here on the message boards. I attempted to vote but it wouldn't respond when I pushed the buttons.

I guess saying "Take me I'm yours" would pretty much be out, huh?

The poll doesn't seem to be working. I think the problem is that most don't read the guidelines, so they see no problem posting an ad here.

I've noticed that in the introductions, and I like the introduction feature, btw ...that some are posting a copy of what may be in their profiles thinking the message boards are an extension of collarme in that way. Or...being a "lifestyle" site, they are introducing themselves in a "lifestyle" way, and stating what they seek, which is what brought them to collarme.

The way I saw it the 'ad' (bio/listings) is a section for speaking directly to play partners (the first step to 'negotiation").

In the "intro" I mentioned background info that is more 'out of role'. and how and why I came to BDSM in the first place.

I think I got the poll to work now. Not sure what was wrong with it. Thanks for the responses so far.

Mod 4-

It's working now.

I clicked 'other' becuase what makes it an 'ad' in mymind, is the lack of any real info other than their search requirements. I'd think that it's a pretty wide grey line, so I think it would be best to just tolerate them in the intro section, and only chasten those that keep reposting it or bumping it.

Stay warm,
Lawrence

Hello,

Not sure if this is a dissenting voice, but my take is as follows...

An "introduction" should be a person talking about themselves. Describing
their likes, etc.

An "ad" would be a person talking about what they want, although I think
words like "Any females from Fairbanks, AK, look me up" definitely make
it an ad.

It is a grey area, because part of what a person can use to describe themselves
can be talking about their search criteria.

I would say it's entirely contextual.

The purpose of an introduction (to me) is to communicate a handful of chosen details about yourself so that others can get to know you-the-person.

So to me, an introduction that contained nothing but the same details than in a profile is an ad. However, an introduction that mentions your two dogs, love of rollerderby and passion for Italian cooking is different. It lets me respond to you-the-person, not you-the-kinkster.

What I saw the other day was an add. Post number 1 by the offender, a pro domme, and in her message it was all about visiting her personal website, repeatedly putting in her web addy and info about what she will do for you as a Pro Domme.

That is pure and simple advertising. Nothing in it was about her reason for coming here, just "I want your money come visit my website" kind of crap.
