As a side note to the OP, one thing I did happen to think of when bitching about my winter skin, was Emu Oil cream.

~Kaylin

tattoo parlors might have it. maybe ones that do a lot of heavy piercing/body modification work too. i actually just got given some here for a wind burn/dry facial skin issues, and it was at a tattoo/piercing parlor.

This is just a suggestion to everyone, but I'd try emailing all these various companies to get samples of their products. Trying lots of different creams, lotions and potions can be very expensive, but if you can try samples, you'll find what does and doesn't work on you for free.

abraxus - thanks for the tip! i will check there instead, the price of the wax was kind of making my eyes pop. i did try the bath last night, though, and it didn't help a lot with the dry skin but it actually did seem to help my arthritis a bit, so i may keep using it just for that :)

i also tried the cortisone suggestion, and that seems to have helped a bit. i still have some spots that are really bad but i am hoping if i keep trying different lotions and things they will eventually not be so awful. i'm going to see my tattoo artist on thursday (i got new tats on saturday! yay! and i'm getting one of my previous ones colored in a bit more then) and i'll check and see what kinds of lotion he has.

and the samples idea is fabulous. i am a broke college student so i'm all about free stuff :P

thank you all again for the help.

respectfully,
annabelle.

Emu Oil and other products with Emu Oil can be found reasonably priced at www.kaylala.com
Wonderful stuff.  I don't know the shipping fees, I recieved mine as a gift and then browsed their site. I'm a believer in it and when what I have is gone, actually, before it's gone, I'll be getting more.

i use Vermonts original bag balm on my hands & face, i also think its better than most wrinkle creams & theres no alcohol in it. (okay so its actually made for chapping of cows udders, but hey if it works for them & they are out in all weather....)

That sounds udderly ridiculous. Just wait until you start mooing. Then what?

annabelle, the best thing i've ever found to use on fresh ink is cocoa butter.  you can get that fairly inexpensively at the drugstore...but be sure the package says 100% cocoa butter, some of the containers say cocoa butter formula and the first ingredient is petroleum jelly.

cocoanut oil is another good moisturiser.  its a semi-solid, like crisco in a can, but it melts at skin temperature, and absorbs quickly.  its good for skin and hair and nails, and you dont need that much to do a good job.

Taking baths will actually increase the dryness

Old wive's tale.  A lot of soaps are drying, some water has too much chlorine in it, and anything can be overdone, but occasional soaking in a warm tub is not going to dry out skin.

It really depends on what website you look at. Or what doctor you speak directly to. You can find the good and the bad.  My doctor swears by not taking too many baths.  His plan is 2 a week.  Someone like me...well I cannot cope with 2 showers or baths a week.  Factor in the gym every other day...and the sauna or hot tub...well...it is not going to happen.

Anyway, I have reason to believe at this point my dry skin is a virus and not dry skin at all...so todays' appt should be interesting.
