My pleasure. After all of the hours I spent researching the subject, I'd hate to think that my slave and I would be the only ones to benefit.

a artical i found -
Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, provide the best available means of reducing risk of transmission of many sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV and trichomoniasis. Condoms also can reduce the risk of genital herpes, syphilis, chancroid, and HPV infection, but only when the infected areas are covered or protected by the condom. according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Condoms made of lambskin, however, do not offer such protection because they have microscopic holes that may stop sperm, but are large enough to allow viruses to go through.

i found this on the "lifestyles comdom" website.. startling facts on STD - i found interesting, thought Y/you might also...

The Real Deal on STDs
STDs are spreading like wildfire because people out there just aren't finding out what they need to know. Here's the scorecard so far:

One out of 4 women and one out of 5 men have no knowledge about their sexual partners' history.
Two-thirds of 1,000 women age 18 to 60 knew nothing or very little about STDs (other than HIV/AIDS) in 1995.
The highest at-risk groups are adolescents and gays. African American and Hispanic women are also in the high-risk group.
The rate of unwanted pregnancies and incidence of disease is alarming.
There are over 12,000,000 new cases of STDs a year.
Over 70,000 Americans have a viral STD — like genital herpes, HIV/AIDS, or Hepatitis B.
Individuals under 25 have two-thirds of the STD cases in the U.S.
1 out of 4 teens will contract an STD
1,000,000 teenage pregnancies each year
Rates of curable STD cases in the U.S. are the highest in the developed world.
There are 150 STD cases per 100,000 in the U.S. versus 3 cases per 100,000 in Sweden.
Over 70,000 Americans have viral STD-like genital herpes, HIV/AIDS, or hepatitis B.
Viral STDs such as HPV, herpes, and hepatitis B are lifelong diseases.
Many people experience no noticeable symptoms initially, but can still pass on the disease.
Women are up to 5 times more likely to become infected and suffer more serious consequences.
Over 20,000 new cases of HIV/AIDS are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
62% of those cases reported before 1996 have died (319,000 Americans).
Women now represent 30% of new HIV/AIDS cases reported.
75% of the cases are from heterosexual sex.
3 out of 5 Americans with HIV were infected as teens
HIV infection rates are 10 times higher when STDs are not treated properly

I'd add one more;

Around 70% of Americans are infected with at least one strain of HPV, but the great majority of these cases are asymptomatic and have no idea they're infected. There are scores of known strains of HPV, and while most of those appear to be pretty harmless (aside from the possibility of unsightly venereal warts), a half dozen or so are responsible for the vast majority of cases of cervical cancer and cancer of the penis.

In case any of you thought that I was being kinda paranoid in talking about precautions, that was the statistic that was a clincher. Add to it a 25% herpes simplex 2 infection rate in the US (also mainly asymptomatic), and you realize that it's not a matter of playing roulette -- if you've had 2 or 3 partners in your life, you've been exposed. Even children under 10 have a 10% rate of HPV infection, since it can be transmitted without sexual activity. Because condoms are only about 60% effective at blocking HPV and HSV, looking beyond condoms seems like a reasonable idea.

Tha's what's so scary. So many people swear they are "clean" when they have no idea if the have HPV. About 10% of the women who contract an HPV strain will have an abnormal pap. If not treated it can develop into cervical cancer.

It is scary... but if condoms aren't 100%... What can be done? What other choices are there? Besides abstaining from sex!

this response is to noone in particular lol my disclaimer. i thought i had read somewhere that the use of a condom and a spermicide would help reduce the spread of any STD's. Does anyone know if that is incorrect? Thanks.

It might help prevent pregnancy but i doubt if a spermacide kills viruses, i could be wrong.

Very good question, let me know when you get the answer.

Use of a spermacide in conjunction with condoms does provide additional protection from STDs, though I do not know exactly how much extra protection. The "official" recommendations have changed a few times over the years.

Urinating and washing thoroughly after sex is a very good idea. As NoCalOwner mentioned, this especially applies to HPV.

There is no such thing as "safe sex", the goal is "safer sex". Driving a car is risky too. We don't avoid cars, but we do (hopefully) wear seatbelts, perform regular maintanence, etc.

There has definitely been some flip-flopping on this subject over the years, but my impression lately has been that the only spermicides which are safe for preventing transmission of STDs are not currently on the US market.

The only spermicide available on condoms in the US, nonoxynol-9, might be worthless or worse in preventing HIV transmission. It looks great in the test tube, and there's no doubt that it kills both sperm and many STD pathogens, including HIV. In actual use, things are different. Some studies found that it did not help prevent HIV transmission, and others raised the possibility that by irritating mucous membranes it might actually increase risk of transmission by damaging the body's natural defenses. In one study, where it or a placebo gel were used as a lubricant by African and Thai prostitutes, N-9 lubrication *increased* HIV transmission by 50% over the placebo. See, for example, this from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/HIV/pubs/mmwr/mmwr11aug00.htm
This summary, from last year, also says to avoid N-9, especially for anal sex:
http://www.metrokc.gov/health/apu/infograms/nonoxynol9-0403.htm

Nonoxynol-9 and SLS are both detergents, both kill HIV at very low concentrations, and both are known to be able to irritate or ulcerate mucous membranes. SLS has been removed from consideration as an internally used agent to prevent STD transmission (due to the irritation issue). I personally think that N-9 products should either be withdrawn from the market, or *very* clearly labelled as not for STD prevention.

That's why I bother to make carrageenan gel. I can't find any good alternatives. Some very expensive benzalkonium chloride products made by Pharmatex can be ordered from Canada or Europe, and they may be better than N-9. Octoxynol-9 is a detergent-type spermicide which might do the job, but the FDA killed it as an OTC contraceptive in the US two years ago, and people who are most sensitive to N-9 are also usually irritated by octoxynol-9.

Iota carrageenan is available here, at around 2 cents per dose, if you don't mind having to measure and mix it yourself: http://www.rpicorp.com/index.php?t=biochem&cat=767&id=803

I was told when i got my check up very recently to be sure of specific types i have it someplace on a disk. (and did buy those types) and to always to inspections. (like it is not common sense to check first) I though have leaned to do so without the person knowing so they are not embarrassed .

p.s.
I was told there are some STD's that i can not get do to a TAH/BSO as it breeds in the female organs. I forgot exactly which one but i asked for it to be tested anyway. i take protection very seriously and was told to get checked if active sexually with more than one parner every 3- 6 months.

ps i will check on the links noticed in other posts.

I think that Jade was referring to buying specific kinds of condoms and inspecting them for damage or flaws.

Proud sub regarding tah/bso?

Ok to clarify in small text. I have "NO" Female organs due to past cancer (in my 20s)
I am told by the doctors many of the STDs I can not catch due to they need a host. (meaning overies to attach or uterus). I will have to ask my doctor next week which they are if your curious. I just test for all anyways.

Yes, It was exactly. what i meant. I too save most of my infomation onto E drive disks due to saving on the hard drive space.

But too was not sure they new the term TAH/BSO
ty phew at this rate i will get my vanilla off in now time lol *giggles

Like they say the only stupid question is one not asked.

I take hiv/stds seriously had a chiildhood friend die of Aids, very young. Also i am told and of course it is common sense but for me... so adding it in case one does not know, be sure to change condums between women (if 3 somes etc) as this is the fastest way for women to get std's in their overies but infections too.

ty again,
jade

Even when it covers completely it won't protect you from HPV becasue there is still skin to skin contact. It probably helps though.

Unfortunately condoms have been presented as a cure all against infection. Which means a lot of people out there are actually engaging in high risk behavior even WITH them.

Your std tests are only as good as the date the last one came back folks. (To be specific, the exact moment the blood for the test was drawn) You could be infected and passing it around the day after you had sex, after that.

There's really only one remedy and I know people aren't going to like this answer.

Abstinence, or monogamy with an uninfected partner.

Anything else is playing russian roulette with your health.

Yanno, tests are also only good to find the strains they DO know are out there. For instance hiv has been present in the us since the 1960's,it took till the early 80's for it be be officially discovered, after it had already been devastating the gay community for quite some time.

What other UNKNOWN bugs do you suppose are out there?
