While at the Fetish Fair Fleamarket in Providence, I picked up a Dragon Tail made by Toolworks Chicago. It's a single piece of leather with a handle, and it has a nice snap to it but can be doubled over to use as a slapper. I'd had one of these used on me before, so I wanted one of my own.

I'm curious about the care and keeping of it. Will the oils come out of it like a traditional whip? If so, what should I do about it? What can I do about the tip to keep it from fraying too quickly? I rather like the snap, thus I'd like to keep it in as good a condition as possible. I've heard that poppers can be attached, but I don't know how.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is probably going to sound like a crazy idea, but perhaps the fine folks at Toolworks might be best suited to answer questions about their products?

Just a thought.

Ahh, yes, that is true. I was just curious about other peoples' experiences with caring for dragon tails.

Thanks for the help.

as i sell the Dragons tail s , i would have to know what tool works  used for leather ?is it suede ?is it deer ,elk etc ?stef has the right idea and use them for  support , though each hide type have tricks and cleaning and care methods .Tooolworks  does have  nice handles though .Ditch the idea of a popper on the end , when it freys too much it just needs some light  trimming .

I actually rub a combination of a couple of different kinds of oil on my dragon tails to keep the leather flexibly painful. Also - air and sun them out. It's amazing what the simplest things can do. Oh, and when sanitizing - do not use hand sanitizer as a bunch of the " smart" people do. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for leather, I cannot even begin to describe it.
