I adore corsets in all of their forms.
But for weight loss...I would not recomment them. The only thing that will cause you to loose weight is a lessened amount of food intake combined with more movement. The corest will only 'reshape' your body, not cause it to loose weight.
Besides, think about this: if you use a corset nicely and actually get your waist slimmer, you will still look funny with a nice waist but, uhem, arms that are not in proportion.
While you are on a sensible diet, try wearing the precurser for the corset, the stay. It covers much more of the body and has a heck of a lot more boning. But unfortunately, you will probably have to make one yourself, as I don't seen them sold too often. Maybe try 16-17th century re-enactors shops.
In any case, good luck!

ROFL... I must add...  how about using gags for eating control?

I think one eneds to be realistic in accepting that being obese places physical restrictions on MANY things you could otherwise do.

"Bodies" as they were called are wonderful for the fuller figured gal.

I am busty and it does keep things tucked in.

It will not do anything for weight loss, but it will improve posture, and how you look a bit as far as waist line goes, it sucks it all in.

I make Corsets, and bodies. ( of all types) My advert is on the Artisians forum.

I just finished a exactant replica of the Dorthea Bodies for myself from Queen Elizabeth's time.

How nice to hear that someone makes these! I do so too and enjoy the effort and whole process greatly. I finished a closed front stay just about a day ago, modeled on the early 18th century ones. It came out wonderfully. Now it's time to save a penny or two for the silk mantua.:)
To stay on topic...I totally agree that for the fuller figured gal, the stay is so much better than a tiny and tight victorian.
