YourhandMyAss -> So what if you're taking a polygraph test you tell the truth but it redgisters as a lie? (1/24/2008 2:50:03 PM)

I was watching the moment of truth, and the guy's poly graph said he was lying when the guy felt he told the truth, which brings me to the question what if you ARE telling the truth but the poly registered something as a lie. To me that'd be my biggest fear about going on the game show, I'm telling the truth, whole truth, and the poly says I am not so I loose all the money I've thus earned.  What if you're just simply nervouse to be having so many questions asked. What if you are not lying an a poly thinks you are.

that show i watched last night...i find it can be easily fixed so that they dont win any real money.  just like on deal or no deal...easily fixed...nobody on deal or no deal has ever won the million and i think only twice had the million be in the picked case.  deal or no deal is good for the guests and the models though.
the other night deal or no deal 3 cases left 2 were millions and she had the $400 case.

the only game shows i really liked were price is right, millionaire, and jeapordy.

I've seen someone win the millions like once, course I don't watch deal or no deal cause it's kind of boreing to me.

How are those games easily rigged?

think of actual criminals who go thru these tests.  there are ways to fool the machine.  deal or no deal just seems wayyyyyyyyy to scripted and alot of acting.  and alot of coincidences... like when host says "this is the all important end all be all case to get into the next round... and poof its the million"  or... the host says "oh you havent seen your mom and shes never flown a plane...well look over there...its your mom...we flew her in..." ya right like they're going to pay for that.

Well more like they get mom on the phone to talk to the daughter, but who knows maybe they would fly in mom, maybe they got a really cheap flight, or wrote it off on a tax return who knows.

well it doesnt explain why someone with a phobia on flying a plane..would all of a sudden do it because someone else paid for it and fly from china (where this person was).

and yea deal or no deal nobodys won yet.  they just finished the "million dollar mission" which failed.  last contestant had 9 million dollar cases.  and didnt win it.

there are others i liked... identity, and 1 vs 100 which some 21 yr old nerd whos never been kissed just won the million on last week.

As the recipient of many polygraph tests in the line of work I have chosen, I can speak on this subject.  Polygraph machines/software measure physiological responses to certain trigger questions.  During one ploygraph, I was asked the question if I had ever engaged in sexual contact with a minor......just the very thought of it sickens and angers me, I felt my heart physically jump, and knew that there was an indication of deceit.....however, the operator asked me the same question 3 times, and on each response, I had a similar reaction, and the software then concluded that there was no deceit on my part.

What they are using on the game show/reality show is by no means scientific.  During the hiring process for the job that brought me to Arizona, I had 3 different polygraphs.....the first two indicated deceit, and trust me, my life was an open book...the background check packet covered everything but Granma's shoe size and Granpa's sperm count!  What  happened was apparently my breathing is not compatible with the computer software....after the first run through, the operator told me that if a doctor had been looking at my respiration rate, they'd put me on a ventilator........tried it again with the same results.....came back two weeks later, actually phyisically controlled my breathing..inhaling to a 2 count, exhaling to a 4 count....damn near hyperventilated!...and it indicated that I was telling the truth.  Any movement whatsoever while connected to the mahines sensors will also mess up the results, and just in the previews, the "contestants" are moving around.

It is very simple to rig the results of the test......they won't be giving too much money away on that show!

Just a useless bit of trivia that floats around my head.....

see...there u have it...and also explains how criminals get away with it when they go thru poly tests.  i dont even think poly tests are accepted in court.

Soul the lie dectector test is done before they go on the show, and the answer is revealed as they sit there.

Polygraphs are inadmissible in court as evidence.  Detectives are, however, allowed to use them to aid their investigations and even lie to you about the results in an effort to wring a confession out of someone they believe is guilty.

Just the thought of them gets me nervous...the whole system of it freaks me out and i can't do it.
And in terms of deal or no deal i think Howie is just instigating...i think the man is really going..."give them the money, they deserve it." and Howie just tells them He lowered the price...just a theory.

YHMA....oh, OK....I haven't seen the show, so wasn't sure how it worked....I was just drawing off the previews from commercials.

And no, couurts won't recognize them as evidence simply because there are people out there who can manipulate the results....by my own example, I am one of them!

Innocent people always stress out about them and get nervous...the guilty just sit there.  I read something interesting in a book written by a cop.....bring in a group of people involved in a crime scene, as witnesses or perps, the innocent ones will be all wigged out....the guilty will fall asleep!  I know this to be accurate based on my experiences too.

Which is why, guilty or innocent, if the police ever want to ask you a question, you should always:
  1. Insist on being read your rights
  2. Invoke your right to remain silent
  3. Insist on a lawyer being present
