Ok, I'm sure that this has been posted about countless times before, and i'm also sure that i'm properly in the minority, but does anyone else get annoyed when they get messages calling them girl straight off? i have a name its gracie and only my Dom *if i was with one* and a few close Dom friends have ever called me girl. i don't answer to it from random strangers and it bugs me when people can't show me the respect to use my name.
i understand it's well known name by D/s and subs and have no issue with that but i do get frustrated by the guys that message me on here going ok girl i want details of where you live, i'm polite say no and go from there ..... if they respond again well that's there own fault.
my question is does it annoy anyone else, and if it doesn't annoy people why? am i thinking about it and viewing it in the wrong way?
much thanks
gracie x

Now, girl, don't get your panties in a knot.  LOL  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

Seriously, I'm the exact same way when a domme calls me boy.  I'm not a boy, I'm a man and I have a name.  "Boy" is reserved for my domme, but She prefers to call me by the name "pet" or "pookie".  Whatever floats Her boat, I guess.  LOL

Being called "boy" is a term of endearment to me, so I do get a bit annoyed if I'm called that, although my responses to it are far from polite or boyish.  LOL [:D]

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: A pet peeve (1/28/2008 1:16:59 PM)

in the past i have received messages that began with "girl" or "slut" in which i replied back "did you get permission from Daddy to call me by those names? if not, please stop".

yes it would still bother me if someone would call me "girl" when i'm not their girl

<snicker> Sorry couldn't help it <snicker> generally it is the sign that someone needs a clue by four or has been hanging out in chats. They try to put you in your place (subbing) even before you have one or want one with them.  My usual response is "Man? Would you like to buy a clue?"

I found these sorts of terms of endearment from strangers to be amusing. Life is too short to get hung up on the small stuff. The intent of this form of address is to tap into a submissive's need to be controlled and to establish a control dynamic from the word "go". It may not be effective in your case, but I am sure there are some submissives that get extra special squishy when they open an email with the word "girl" in it. I get called "girl" a lot in the real world... "hey girl, what's up?" is a common thing around these parts, and I find nothing inherently disrespectful about calling me "girl" in general. It is a bit condescending I suppose because of what that term means to Ds people...

If something has turned me off, I tend not to spend any energy in thinking about it, that way it doesn't upset me... there are worse things to be called right from the start... like "little one"

i dont normally get riled by it but i had ten messages calling me girl in my inbox yesterday and it made me a bit grumpy lol but i can understand the trying to get the aspect of control in from the start, so thankyou:)

venusinblu -> RE: A pet peeve (1/28/2008 1:35:48 PM)

I had a CM mail from a chancer today who called me 'miss' and then proceeded to tell me what he wanted to do to my bottom and that which eminates from my bottom - so salutations mean nothing if what they actually say within their mail is .. unwelcome and somewhat bizarre.

From strangers, or from people who think they know me because they read the forums but never post, I usually just don't respond and move on.  Doesn't take that long to click "delete."

If it's from a forum regular it doesn't bother me.  Just as I hope it doesn't bother them when I call them "Stud".  Haven't received any complaints so far.

I completely agree with you, I hate it when people call me 'girl' or any other on the long list of obnoxious nicknames for submissive girls. It drives me completely mad. I have a Dom already, and I am not YOUR girl. I am his girl and only he can refer to me as such.

sweetwenchie -> RE: A pet peeve (1/28/2008 1:49:49 PM)

eh, it irks me a bit, but i try to shrug it off.  i spent a number of years growing up in New Orleans and cutsie colloquialisms were part of everyday conversations.  Strangers often used, sweetie, sweetheart, darlin, hun, etc etc.  i just rank the whole "girl" thing along with them.

littleone35 -> RE: A pet peeve (1/28/2008 3:42:26 PM)

Before i had my Master if they called me girl i just responded by calling them guy.  Hmm that did not go over too well when i did that.   They did not seem to like it,  i figured if you can call me girl i can call you guy.  Of course if it was someone i was interested in i would say my name is_____  not girl.  Master does not call me girl  he call me HIS good girl.
