I figure I might as well ask...what's the point of a double ended flogger and how would it be controlled?

For example,

Now, it sure looks neat and all, but what do you do with it? I can picture operating it as a regular flogger, but then you have the extra tails just swinging around pointlessly. I could see swinging so you hit with both sets of falls at one time, but I'd think that you'd need to have your hand at an unnatural angle to do it - basically in a fist that's perpendicular to how you're striking as opposed to parallel along the handle.

Are either of those right? If so, how well does it work? If not, then how would you use one of these things?

Typically, you clench one of these bad boys in a fist, starting in a position with your arm extended forward and your palm downwards.  Then you swing the thumb-side tails pretty much as you would for a normal figure-8 flogging pattern.  The downward portion of the strike naturally causes the other side to rise, so you let it flow naturally and strike again with the pinky-side tails.  (The thumb-side strike can be done from the wrist, but the pinky-side strike needs some elbow to make it work.)  Once you have the hang of it, you'll find that you're doing a somewhat more elaborate figure-8 with broader arm motions, but you're hitting at double the tempo you'd have with a conventional flogger.

Other swings are possible, of course, but the above form is the one you see most often.

Don't take this as an endorsement of the design... double-ended floggers are flashy in use and tend to draw admiration, but they aren't nearly as versatile as a conventional flogger.  The second set of tails can get in the way of many techniques.  Buy one of these only if (a) you play in public and like to show off, and (b) you already have enough normal floggers that you won't be doing your collection a disservice by adding a showy-but-limited specialty tool.

If you've ever seen florentine flogging, this is an application for that sort of flogger.

Used singly or in pairs, they will provide more sensation with less effort (although some coordination is required).

And if you grip it tightly in a fist, you will lose a lot of control. They are best held and guided more like a sword.

a double ended flogger is primarily a show flogger. You practice with it until you're a whiz with it, you use it on a submissive, and then you smile as all the unattahed submissives flock to you.

At least that's the mentality I've come across. They are flashy but so is florentine, and given the choince I'd take a single flogger and place my strikes with absolute accuracy. I prefer a standard flogger. I have been known to hold two floggers in the same hand but that was a one time exception.
