Depends on how you run the show. There are differnet kinds of boards.
There is nothing worse imo than a board where mods join in th eposting in their mod name. Sort of like driving down the hiway in the same direction of a cop.
Some boards the mods express there personal opinions with censorship.
The problem with strong moderation is that is is human nature to be more lenient to those of your own persuasion all the way to totally biased.
The very best boards in my opinion are the unmoderated boards, which is not entirely true as they still need to keep out the porn and spam etc but as far as topics playing nanny or referee all that is non existant.
Surprisingly from my personal experience the unmod boards or the self mod boards using the 7out of 10 votes by the users offer the most flexibility, in many cases less bickering than the heavily modded boards.
Then there are yet other boards that have an unmoderated section within a moderated board where again people can say and do anything but spam porn or copyright violations etc.
I would consider helping to moderate an unmoderated board but never a heavily moderated board, I simply have not seen heavily moderated boards to be of better quality in terms of "content", and typically have been worse for general forums, which excludes the techincal boards I am on.
