I have read the thread "Dominance and Chauvinism" and it brought to mind a question. As a submissive/slave, how would you describe Dominance? In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a Dominant?

I am sure that this question has been asked and answered before, so feel free to answer with a link to a previous post.

Pleasure in having control over another person.

The qualities of domination which may be severe, kind, sadistic, simply wanting service vary with the individual. I don’t think there’s a meaningful archetype, standard or anything along those lines.

What I want from a dominant is self-understanding, empathy and self-confidence. The details will work themselves out.

You cannot control another until you first have control of yourself.
I don't know if this is completely true, but i know that i would never submit to one who was prone to temper tantrums, lol.
A Dominant, to me, is one who has that self-control, along with honesty, loyalty, and a large helping of self-confidence. There are many other characteristics involved of course, but those are the major ones.

for me i'd have to say Dominance to me means ...controlling, strict, loving, mentor, teacher, wiser than i, in total control over my mind, body and soul, self assurance, confident, wisdom/wise and there's more but i just can't think of it rigth now, sorry.
