The jingoism and attachment to the flag really fucks me off, but it's ingrained in little children from the very first day they go to school, so the brainwashing is pretty thorough. Kittensol, I've had a passport since I was 19 and I've been to about 40 or more countries. I also have dual U.S./Irish Citizenship. Any lack of curiosity regarding foreign countries I have is due to the fact that I know that they're looking for something when it comes to the U.S. either immigration or money. Or maybe intervention by our Troops to solve (their) problems. How's things up in N.H. weatherwise? I lived in Hampton for ten years, the winters are much nicer here in Myrtle Beach!

As I said, I know they did not invent the first microprocessor or computer itself. Arguing with me on how americans arent innovators doesnt make you right, just because you misread what I am saying.

Luciouslips, the first company to use the term PC when selling a computer were IBM... Not Apple, that one fact you didnt check. Answer this honestly and i will concede defeat, do you or do you not consider the Internet to be the WWW. i suspect the majority of people do, i know i do. My whole point for keeping on is this, hardly anything thats ever been invented has been soley down to one person or company. CelticLord, and im not having any digs here, mentions Lisa. Apple were only able to do this because IBM allowed them access to IBP equipment.

I am not in a contest with you so if you need to be the winner, go ahead. but On April Fool's Day, 1976, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs released the Apple I computer and started Apple Computers. The Apple I was the first single circuit board computer. This is what I am defining as a PC. One that you could carry home and sold cheaply to the masses. Steve Wosniak worked for Hewlett packard at the time. Not IBM. This is America. A corporation canot "allow" an individual anything. Like I said, you really need to look this stuff up before you spout it.

Actually that show demonstrates exactly the opposite... that people muddle along using everyday items without seeing their potential or connection to something else, or they give up short of a breakthough until someone comes along and does the work or has the timing to be considered an inventor. In the history of inventions, quite often more than one person has the same idea, and only one of them gets credit. As far as not assigning a nationality, the queston was phrased in those terms, so what is the point in decrying that?.

Back to the original thread title. We don't hate you. We appreciate your hospitality, your drive, and willingness to help; you're generally one of the first in when a natural disaster strikes outside your border; so thank you. If you paid for health care and education, I'd be down there like a shot. But we wish you learned some history of other nations. How many Americans know we burned down the first White House? Less than 20%, I bet. WWI started in 1914, WWII started in 1939, and historically, 'Saving Private Ryan' was a crock of US bullshit; Spielberg, you little dumbass, read who else landed on D-Day. As for 'My country, drunk or sober' racism, how many Americans will flame for even suggesting such treasonous talk in the current climate, blah blah blah? More than 20%, I bet. you complain about your income taxes, yet you pay 1/3rd of what other industrialised nations pay, and professional athletes are paid what teachers should be paid. So, a little more empathy, a little less reactionary, you'd be loved again. Or maybe you could just let the Blue states vote to cecede; the south would implode itself back into the Stone Age, and we can deal with the more rational north. And while we're here, stop loudly complaining about the food/accomodations/public transport etc. when you're travelling. Just stop. Sheesh!

Actually, the problem is deeper and more dangerous than a superficial disliking of America. If the forthcoming recession becomes an outright Depression, America will have very few people who will care about it. Consider that Bush and his cronies have alienated most of our longtime allies, and exacerbated long-simmering resentments. If America falls into hard times and needs help, who would care to give it?
