Hi everyone,

I just posted a similar question to the Mistresses but would like to hear from that Masters as well. How old were you when you first realized what you're into? What do you think started it? When did you first act on it?

I'm curious to hear other people's experiences.

Ok, for some of us what we do is seperate from who we are. Most people assume that Master = Dom = sadist. This isn't always true, but it is the most common combination of the three.

To answer you question literally: When did I realize I was a Master? I realized I was a Master in January 2005 at a spiritual SM Ms event. I changed from Mistress to Master that weekend. This is part of my spritual path.

To answer what I think you're asking: When did I realize I was a Dominant? It's my natural inclination to be in charge and always has been. However, I have put this aside inside two marriages to be who I thought I was "supposed" to be as a wife. I've made that mistake twice...don't intend on doing it again.

To answer what you might be asking: When did I realize I was a Top? I discovered that I'm a sadist in 1997. However, I've discovered I'm a masochist on some levels for certain things.

Confused yet? LOL

I never wanted to be a Dominant.  When I learned about BDSM (at age thirty) I realized that I am a Dominant.  It wasn't something that I set out to be, or worked to become.  It's just the way I am.

I do not consider myself a "Master" of anything and detest the implications that the term connotes some greater level of (fill in the blank).  From time to time, I have been Master to some very special women, because they said it was so.  I never told them it was so.

It just happened..felt good...can't explain it..It was "activated" when I entered a bdsm-chatroom because I was curious.
If it feels good..then it must be good

I get pleasure from giving certain others pain

I have had dreams and fantasies of being in control and inflicting pain since I was a small child.  I was a sadist before I was sexually aware at all.  I tortured insects as a child, fortunately never moved on to mammals.  I learned about more of the sexual aspects of it and how much they turn me on as a teenager.

I have a similar tale to tell.

I guess I was always sort of dominant in bed - if I detected a hint of submission, I'd usually go for it and want to take it further.  Most of the time, I chalked it up to the discrepancy of expectations between men and women.

All of that changed when I met my fiancĂ©e.  When I found out that she was into something called 'submission', I started reading about it.  I started educating myself, and a whole new world opened up before me - a world where it was not just ok to want to be the one in charge, it was actually admirable!  Through that initial spark, we both started learning about ourselves, and I discovered more and more that being dominant really worked for me...and more importantly, it worked for us, for our chemistry.

I don't consider myself a master, nor is my submissive a slave to me.  Most of the time, we reserve our D/s for when we are being intimate, but the kind of freedom to be myself that I experience during those moments leads me to believe that I have in fact always been this way, and am only just now starting to realize it.

Man, having only known this world for about a year, I can only imagine where it will take me ten years from now.  I look forward to it.

Its been there as long as I have known. Lurking in sexual fantasies when I was a kid
Getting awakened in various ways throughout my teenage years, then at 18 I met an older women, who had  ping pong paddles but no table.
She was my first slave. It was great.

I had fantasies as a child as well, but my family was conservative and was always taught that such things were bad and tried to keep it all bottled up inside. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I had one of those "change the way you think" moments and began to research the sexuality that had always been...Forbidden. I still didn't know anything about the lifestyle until reading some psychology articles online that spelled out the kind of fantasies I had. The concept still took some time to sink in, but here I am for better or worse.

MrSpectacular -> RE: How did you realize you want to be a Master? (2/16/2008 10:55:47 PM)

To the OP - was not a single act or anything else - it mainly was a series of experiences and then just a process of assigning a name to it. Being a dominant for me is not about a sudden realization - it is a process of developing and learning what is comfortable for me - not with a name tag called Dom - but with a natural lifestyle that  I am comfortable with.

GiantMaster -> RE: How did you realize you want to be a Master? (2/17/2008 3:19:05 AM)

One who claims to be a Master must Master his own life first. If you can not respect yourself...how do you think a slave is ever going to respect you?
Age 10 is when I realized that I was a Master. I didn't know exactly what the feeling was, or how to quite describe it, but I knew that it was an integral part of who I was, and that it was going to play a signifigant part of my life. Just like the first time I realized I was gay. They both pretty much ran side by side.

In my case am a real late comer, 70 and retired professional military of 32 years,  have been well trained to be in charge, which fits being a dom.  Having met a super way younger lady who is a sub.  To better understand her life style she has directed me here and other places to learn, have found so far, improved our relationship with each other.

I noticed it when I was 17.  My submissive realized when she was young 14-15.  I have the need for Dominance because there are somethings in life you just cant control. Life. Death. Downsizing.  There are so many aspects of life that are uncertain My Dominance is a bit of spite against the world i can,t control.

*Fast Reply*

When the address on the back of the comic book sent me my Leather Chaps and Super Secret Decoder ring along with the Super Secret Answer to being a TWUE Master, Then we took down the sign that said "No Girls Allowed" and started our own Dungeon and eventually Mom made me go to Therapy But God Do you remember the days in the old school yard?

Seriously, how do you answer this kind of question? I was 8 when I learned what BDSM Stood for and ever since then I have been a very different kind of boy. I don't even remember where I learned the phrase to begin with but I can tell you even at 8 it seemed pretty cool. It would be YEARS before I acted on these latent desires but I ALWAYS wanted to. Does this make me a Pervert or a sociopath? I can't remember which one my Therapist called me before canceling all the rest of my sessions.

I think knowing who you are is the most important part to doing what it is that we do in this lifestyle and that being said few people rarely ever admit to themselves who they really are, I'm still working on it, there are parts of me that are very much there that I wish were not but I have to accept them and then work on them, all of these are part of being (Choose Your Lable) so again I ask how do you answer this kind of question? What I am Now I may not think I am in another 20 years.

As Always
