I was friends with a female on a cam site who lost a nipple from using nip clamps. Sorry i don't know exactly how it hapened.

remember, nipples - even male nipples - are designed to endure whatever a baby/toddler's mouth can do to them - they are surprisingly 'tough' and resilient and can take quite a bit of 'punishment' without permanent damage

not necessarily - when I was in boot camp, every day on the morning run my nipples would bleed from the chafing of my shirt - no permanent damage done

Apply usual caveats here

i've noticed at JT's Stockroom they have a statement on all their clamps and weights that caution should be exercised using these 'toys' as damage can occur. Of course, this could just be a statement to try to cover their asses in case something does go wrong, but then again... perhaps someone pulled one off. OK. That's an extreme example. i would think that depriving blood flow to an area for 'prolonged' amounts of time (over 30 minutes maybe?) would be a bad thing. Is there a doctor in the house?

Cutting off the blood supply to the nipples via clamps, presses, etc, can result in damage, just as cutting off the blood to any other part of your body can do damage. Typically, I wont leave clamps on for much longer than 20 minutes, but thats just my personal preference.

Damage them... in what sense? Scar? Permanent loss of feeling? Loss of all or part of the nipple?

The biggest danger is prolonged use of overly tight clamps which cut off the blood supply to the tissues. The tissues may be injured, and in extreme cases may die, in which case the affected areas would need to be removed.

The amount of time clamps may be left on safely will depend on the tightness of the clamps. If a Dominant is inexperiened, or not able to pay close attention to his submissive while the clamps are on - 10 minutes should be plenty. (Assuming the clamps are very tight) Under more careful monitoring - for numbness, coldness, or bluish discoloration, longer periods of time might be tolerated without injury. People are different. The blood supply to the area is very individual, and can be affected by certain medications. In general however, the blood supply to nipples is very good - but careful monitoring is the key to using tight clamps carefully.

my uneducated opinion is that the damage would be loss of sensation due to nerve damage.

KennelSlut -> RE: Nipple play?? (7/13/2004 6:39:39 AM)

The nerve which carries sensory information actually comes up through the middle of the nipple. That's why surgeons are able to insert breast implants through an incision at the border of the areola, without damaging the nerve supply to that area. To actually damage the nerve - deep tissue damage would have to occur. Not so likely with clamping - but does occur with piercing every now and then.

What may happen to decrease sensitivity in the nipple after repeated... let us say "rough use", is what amounts to a "callous" formation- the body's natural response intended to make nursing more comfortable. Women who are planning to nurse and anticipate problems with discomfort, are instructed to rub a rough wash cloth over their nipples several times a day in order to "desensitize" the area. This same reaction could also occur with frequent clamp use.

KennelSlut, are you sure you're Vanilla??? Decreased sensitivity sounds like a good reason to go easy.

This information, to the best of my knowledge, and experience, is actually correct. In addition to that, "roughing" the nipples also keeps them clean and open, when lactating. To keep them soft and sensitive, get some nipple, or udder cream. It works like a charm. It is also very useful for keeping them healthy. Broken tissue can cause infection before you are aware that there is a problem. I use it after bathing, play, etc. Just one of those two minute things that feel good, and keeps us in good working order. [;)]

Well- I guess that's pretty individual. If you're hypersensitive, a little down regulation could be a good thing. Also, if your nipples are subjected to a lot of abuse - a little "callus" is protective : )
