That's the question. You're looking to buy a new, quality flogger, what do you look for in any particular type... I've gotten so fed up with trying to find anything worthwhile around here that I've decided to put some of the skills I learned in the Boy Scouts to use and make one, (or two, or twenty) and I'm hoping to get some tips on making my creation a joy to use...

quality leather, good workmanship, balance...but basically, it takes a bit of trial and error to learn to make your own floggers all on your own...glued on anything is usually a bad idea...

Gee, thanks, I couldn't have guessed on my own that I should use good leather and do a good job...

Does anyone have anything useful to say about the subject? Where do you like the ballance? How much do you like them to weigh? Other concerns along those lines?

It sounded like it was good advice to me...... buy a flogger from a good vendor and then you will know what y ou like and dislike ... there are so many personal preferences.... The weight of the flogger I like depends on the effect I want at the time .. my lightest flogger weighs only a few ounces and I have used one that weighs 10 lbs .......and I have them made from all kinds of leather .. from fox fur to rubber. Prehaps buying one you like and takeing it apart would be a help.

Insulting folks isn't exactly the way to win friends here. We are not all of your supplicants to punish because something did not suit you.

If you had specific things you were seeking answers to (rather than just anyone's random thoughts on floggers), perhaps it would have made more sense for YOU to have been more specific in what questions you wanted answered in the OP.

oh sure, now that you have some specific questions, i have some specific answers.....................

i like the balance to be so that when i am holding the handle across my open palm it doesn't feel like it is going to drop due to the falls being heavier than the handle, and at the same time, i don't want the handle to be so heavy that it is adding that much more weight to an already heavy instrument, this is what i mean by "balanced"

as for weight, it depends on the weight of the leather, i generally do not like floggers of few tails, if i want something of few tails i will stick to a quirt or go to a single tail or dragon's tail or something like that...so i like floggers to have from 30 to50 falls, and the weight really depends on the weight of the leather, a deer leather will be very light, and a thick bull chap leather will be much heavier...for me, a bull leather flogger would most likely need something in the handle to counter the weight of the falls...

oh and the falls, longer is better...if the person really wants shorter falls, they can cut them - you can't add length if they want longer falls...

are we going to play nice now and not be so pissy?

Well, I don't buy my floggers I make them but I can tell you what i'd look for in a flogger.

Materials - what is it made out of
Sensation caused - is it going to be thumpy or stingy and which am I looking for (a good way to test it is to ask permission and hit yourself on the inside of the forearm)
Throw- do the tails stay together when you swing it or do they scatter. use your basic shots and see how it lands.
Balance - I like my floggers to balance at the head of the handle.
craftsmanship- Are the tails straight, are they all about the same size, is the handle comfortable with no portrustions that can and will cut the ever loving shit out of your hand, does it have a butt loop for hanging it, and are the tails attached securely?
Asthetics - Is the toy pleasing to the eye?

These are the basic things I try to cover when making toys.
