sillyfrillyboy -> The CDC on HPV (2/4/2008 9:24:32 PM)

A few months back I went to the doctor with a genital wart and was told it was HPV. I am new to this community and seeing all the interaction and the number of posters wanting a desease free subbie I felt very ashamed. I do not sleep around by any stretch of the imagination and became very upset that many of the men I know in the vanilla world who do have not gotten it. So last night I am beating myself up saying no one will ever want to touch me again (not a pleasant thought). I was also reminded of a woman I knew some time ago who litterly went into hysterics when she was diagnosed.

But as with everything I do in life I wanted answers and immediatly became more and more releaved as I researched the topic.
I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH DO NOT GO TO FORUMS AND RELY ON POSTS FOR ACCURATE INFORMATION. WHAT YOU END UP READING IS THAT SOME LADY NEW A FRIEND THAT HAD HPV AND HER DOCTOR SAID THIS OR THAT... I THINK?

DO THE RESEARCH AND FIND REPUTABLE SOURCE WHO QUOTE STUDIES IN THERE FINDINGS.

I only read through about five posts on here and came across ome horror story about some lady who had hpv and this really bad stuff happen. People die from the flu also... and it is most likely just as common.

This is a risk aware kink... so find out the real risk and what the consequences are. When I was a kid I saw a real world trial where someone was up on a murder count for killing his sub during breath play. Things happen but what is the real risk...

SO ALLONG THOSE LINES THIS INFORMATION IS OUT OF THE CDC (center for desease control cdc.gov)

You can find the article here... read and educate would be my suggestion.

Just a few points of interest to me!
1) First off if you have not contracted the desease by age 50 you are in a small minority  <20% (of sexaully active people) will never get the disease.
2) There are more then 30 strains of HPV
3) 20 million people have it right now
4) most infections have no symptoms
5) There is no HPV test for men
6) 10 of 30 identified types of can lead in RARE cases to cervicle cancer
7) There is no cure BUT for most women it goes away on its own... yes the virus goes away in most women
8) In 90% of women the virus will be unditectable in 2 years
9) There is a vaccine (if you ae a woman I would ask you to please get it) and it prtects against many strains of the few types of HPV that cause cervical cancer.
10) Condoms may not cover all areas that can be effected by the virus but there is a corralation (as we all know from science class corralation and causation are to different things this is why the cdc can not comment of the effectiveness of condom use) between condom use and prevention of the cervical cancer causing strains.

So some things this makes my brain think about.

1) Desease free. Since in 90% of women the virus clears in under 2 years then 90% of women who say "I have HPV" dont really :)
2) A more correct phrase would be I had an HPV positive pap "x" time ago.
3) Since the majority of strains have no symptoms and since there is no test for men then for males unless you are a virgin you really dont know if you are desease free (condom use is not 100% effective or even close). Even if you had it before since the immune system often rids the body of the desease then you dont really know that you are not desease free given a resonable amount of time and lack of symptoms.
4) If you are being sexaul with someone in any way, or heck if you meet some on the street, you can accuratly assume that they have probaly had it at some point.
5) If you are in a group setting like a dungeon and there are 100 people there more then 80 of them will have had the desease in there life time.
6) If you ask a play partner if they have ever had the desease (especially male) and they say no they really have no idea :)
7) Invasive cervical cancer was once a very common disease in the United States. Since the introduction of the Papanicolaou (Pap) smear, a screening tool that allows the detection of cancerous and precancerous changes in the cervix, rates of cervical cancer in the U.S. and other industrialized nations have dropped by as much as 70%. So please get checked regularly.

As someone with out a cervix I want to make perfectly clear I am in no way trying to make light of the severity of cervical cancer. As a submissive my main concern was that I could do something to harm a future Mistress which is an devistating idea. But after realising that I am no more or less dangerious then anyone else out there to a future Mistress I felt allot more at ease about it. Ofcourse if you have been diagnosed in the past it is a good idea to tell any partners about it. I have only had one since I was diagnosed and I told her before anything happened. But if you really care about them educate them as well.

I think it is funny the idea me telling someone that I have it and then all of the sudden we have to take all these precautions. I think the one thing that this information says above anything else is that if you dont want to get the desease you had better be taking them with every single one of your partners and not just go on hyper allert as soon as the word HPV comes out.

Bottom line... HPV is the common cold of the sexually active person...

john

For men, also, you really only know if you have HPV is you get a genital wart - and usually then, it'll either clear soon or won't be one of the strains that causes HPV.

I have HPV - the non-wart, cancer-causing kind. I've had it for about two years now, and I go to the gyno every 6 months to keep it in check / check to see if it's cleared.  While it's true that having HPV really isn't nearly as worrisome as other "more serious" stds (does that make HPV the gateway std? /lame joke), I still make Sir wear a condom with His other submissive. :-P

No your right. One of my main points was that people should be careful regardless of if someone says I have hpv because most likely if you are playing with some they have hpv or did at some point or will in the future. I think what really got me started on this was people worring about others not wanting to play with them if they admit to have had the virus before. Its like ummm well you know you are just as likely to get it from any other person you pick it really sure be a nonissue but it is such a big issue and really upsets allot of people. If a person refusses to play with you because you have had hpv before I would consider them more risky because they are assuming a false sence of security about the diseases. It would be better to assume that the person you are playing has hpv whenever you do anything. And I dont mean just pretend I mean assume like chances are they have it or have had it or will have it depending on age. Because chances are you are right.
End the stigma... now... :)

If you feel you are being judge by someone for having hpv just rembmer most likely they have had, have it right now, or will have and they may even have a more dnagerious strain then you.
