Hello and welcome to both of you!
Yes, it's a good idea to lurk, in my opinion, simply because you can't pick up a lot of what to do, and perhaps more importantly, what not to do (or post), from seeing it before.
The forums are at any point in time contentious, hilarious, frustrating, illuminating, engaging, welcoming, saddening and any other number of experiences among disparate people. And certainly, although some interest in BDSM presumably brings most of us together here, we are still quite disparate.
