ToysAndTies -> Kinky secretary looking for work... (2/9/2008 7:16:28 PM)

Hello all.  A friend of mine just got let go from the law firm at which she was working.  I remember a few mentions of job searching and employing in the kink community.  As careerbuilder doesn't let me search for "Personal assistant slave temp" type jobs...anyone know any friends hiring?

She's in the central Jersey area, a good worker, smart, and fun to be around.  She'll provide her own references, I'm just seeing if anyone's interested.

Cheers

What makes now special that instead of looking for a job, she is looking for a job as a kinky secretary?....

I don't know, maybe best i didnt ask...
wishes you well,
melanie

Yes.  She might have better luck if:

1.  She looked for a job by her own self (really, guests are not generally welcome at interviews)
2.  She looked for job at a place where people are actually hiring (not an online kink-centered forum)
3.  She looked for a job in a law firm, since that is where she has experience.  Generally speaking, the last person in the world to leave his/herself open to a lawsuit would be a lawyer, and they are usually quite clever about seperating their personal lives from their professional lives.
4.  The movie "Secretary" was a work of fiction.  It's not going to happen to "your friend."

ToysAndTies -> RE: Kinky secretary looking for work... (2/9/2008 11:04:03 PM)

Insinuation aside, I'm not a proxy for her, and no "my friend" isn't some code word.  She was working at a regular, run of the mill Stein and Stein type law firm.  Yes, "Secretary" was a work of fiction, as I am not an idiot.  However, I also happen to know a bunch of kinky lawyers and legal researchers that tend to get overloaded and need temp help.

She has resume's flying around all over the place, but since her job was quite unexpectedly terminated, I'm just looking at open doors.  I've seen a few profiles staggared about cm where people claim to have jobs such as this (yes, in the real world) and while most of the time I dismissed it as a kinky professional husband employer or something on those lines, now I'm curious.

Having worked at a large law firm as an associate when I was just starting out, I can say they almost qualify for slave owner mentality (although the pay is considerably better).

OneEvilBastard -> RE: Kinky secretary looking for work... (2/9/2008 11:34:56 PM)

About every three or four months, I get made a pretty similar offer from submissive friends. I'm a director with a great team that seems to feel a hell of a lot of loyalty to me. Friends pick up on that and make all kinds of very flattering offers to come and be my PA/intern/you name it. Invariably all kinds of perks get offered as well... be it just for me, rewarding the team, you name it.

The thing is, no matter how consensually everyone gets in to it, it's an utterly unwinnable situation if anyone ever gets pissed off and sues.

  • The girl involved gets too involved, gets rejected, gets hurt... she's got grounds for a suit.
  • A team member gets in to trouble with his wife because of accepting perks, he pretends to be outraged, you're screwed.
  • A team member doesn't feel he's getting the same perks as someone else, gets jealous, you're screwed.
  • A team member gets territorial, you're screwed.
  • A female team member feels she's passed over for promotion for not acting that way, you're screwed.
  • Someone from another team gets jealous and complains, you're screwed.
  • And that's ignoring anywhere that has someone else owning the company - if they have any brains, they'll freak at the very thought of the liability and shut you down in a heartbeat.

It's a hot idea. It's also career suicide.

That said, that's a mainstream business with a large number of employees.

Kink.com, should you go to behindkink.com certainly gives the impression of being a very liberated workplace - but even they have featured HR and what you can/can't do training. I also hear rumors about various larger toy makers and their owners being willing to take greater risks but I've no idea how true they are.

That pretty much leaves one or two man shops where people are willing to take more of a risk.

Doesn't stop it being a hot idea though. If I ever move over to fulltime solo work and find myself needing an assistant, I'm sure I'll wish I had her (or someone like her's) resume.

I don't think the post is out of place here. Your basic rule of job-hunting is to network, network, network.
I also don't think the OP was looking to do anything but possibly help out members of this community by letting them know that a skilled, experienced, potentially desirable resource was available on short notice...since s/he has observed the occasional request for such in the past. Let's face it, it's nice if your legal sec isn't Ms. PruneFace who also volunteers as the church secretary of the Pentecostal Foursquare Ibrahim Revivalist Synagogue of Latter Day Saintly Scientists).

One needn't play with one's employers to have more than just job skills as common ground.

Thanks, Evil Bastard, I really appreciate your response.  I wasn't sure how much one could be protected by contracts for this sort of thing; I know even the most carefully constructed D/s related contracts can be dismissed in court for one reason or another.

I think I'd advise her to keep her search in the vanilla arena, at least until she's back on solid footing workwise then maybe she could explore once the added security is there.

ClassAct2006 -> RE: Kinky secretary looking for work... (2/10/2008 7:44:24 AM)

True in the UK and presumably the US even if the contract said you get spanked for making too many typing errors or the job description includes oral sex or a very short skit and heels,  I doubt it would stand up when she changes her mind and brings a harrassment action. Don't mix work and pleasure is usually a wise thing to follow but sometimes people are looking for someone to help and it could be done on a non kink basis.

You might want to look at these Yahoo groups:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SlaveWorkforce/
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Alt-Employment/

I generally agree with OneEvilBastard - mixing Kink and employment is dangerous in today's legal environment.  On the other hand, I don't think there is anything wrong with seeking a boss with a dominant-type personality if you are naturally submissive.  I would suggest certain "code phrases" in your resume like "compliant type" or "have no problem working under close supervision".   You want to covey the fact that you have no problems taking orders and directions.

I think you might be surprised at how many employers would love to have one of those "Yes sir, right away sir!" 1940's - 1950's type secretaries or assistants.  This applies to male or female employees.

I think you are more likely to find what you are seeking at a small firm or solo practice.

I have just the man for her ...

*wonders if she should just start saving for the wedding hat*

Sounds like she has watched 'The Secretary' too many times....
