We need to start having "Don't buy Gas" days once a month.
Can you imagine what would happen to prices?

Owner59 -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/10/2008 9:24:05 PM)

Now that`s an excellent idea and will ease the squeeze on supply,one of the reasons for the higher prices.

luckydog1 -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/10/2008 9:32:36 PM)

Actually having a no buy day would just screw up the supply system and cause a bunch of extra costs and logistics problems for the companies.  It might make you feel good, but would raise the cost.

idontknowdou -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/10/2008 9:34:43 PM)

let see out of all countries would i ever move out of america um no not ever happening. as for u who live here and diss it i say leave then if ya dont like it. no one making you stay. just means one more job opening in the country.that sure will make someone happy and i can care less about the gov. to me everyones gov is messed up. just think bush will be out the door soon :) hoping clinton takes over then she can actually do what she was doing when her hubby was president run the country.

IMO, a don't buy gas day would have absolutely no impact.   Everyone would simply load up the day before and the day after.   The overall consumption for the month would go unchanged.   If you want to put the squeeze on them, start getting frugal with your fuel consumption.

As for Chavez, he's a Mussolini wanna be.  Just look to his ties to Iran and his repeated sabre rattling.  The sad part is that letting him cut off U.S. oil won't have an impact on his economy since his oil will be sold on the open market then resold to us.   If he want to play this game then we can easily rattle up the pressure with other economic games, but it's a game we must be careful at playing.    Give him enough rope and let him hang himself, don't usher him to the gallows or we will look like the antigonists to much of the world.

        You never know, Shad.  The nuclear power stuff was interesting, but the string of barely related talking points could use some work.  This isn't a bad place to practice.  Do play again sometime [:D]

Dude,stop playing the noble good-doer act.

You know that there would be zero interest in  Venezuelan politics,if we didn`t get like half our oil from there.

Give me a fuck`n break,will ya?

Muttling,

One of the claims of oil companies, is that tight supply periods are responsible the super high prices.

As they sat in the congressional hearings with "Cheshire Cat" smiles on their fat faces,the oil execs would shrug their shoulders and raise their hands and say,

"Hey,when supply drops,prices go up"."That`s economics 101,we`re just innocent millionaires,we can`t help it when "shit happens".lol Whoops, more money!!!

The thinking goes that if we softened the squeeze,even by a little,the "pipe line" will back fill and reserves will grow.

This could lower prices by lowering the demand.

To hijack a little....

How about an Apollo space project style national effort,to lower our dependence on foreign energy sources?

Like Carter purposed almost 30 years ago,including a national solar bank hooked into the nation`s grid,super  efficient cars/trucks/trains/buses/heating systems and jets.

We should have a solar panel on every south-western facing roof in America, and fuck OPEC.

        Thompson;   I read your link far enough to get to the part about the poor 'not having money for work-out plans.'   At that point I dismissed it as pure clueless, bullshit.

      Perhaps you should try considering the context of the remarks you go leaping on.

Why are Americans so concerned about Chavez and the possibility he might be allowed to run for President for a third time? The power for life thing is AMERICAN PROPAGANDA!!!!!!!!!

Of course we know why America is concerned about Venezuela, they have resources America wants for itself and they want them at rock bottom prices and the poor in Venezuela can go fuck themselves as far as American greed for oil is concerned.

Not to mention that the gas you don't buy today becomes the gas you will probably buy tomorrow. Not sure I agree about raising the cost but certainly it would just be a feel good gesture.

Now a don't drive weekend, that might screw things up.

I worked for a guy (managed his business) he owned a Citgo gas station convenience store. He wanted to get out of his contract and sign on with shell or exxon something like that. Citgo won't let him out so he went out of business...LOL.....He shut it the fuck down!....it was beautiful. Now I realize that won't hurt Chavez in the least....but it was poetry to see.[:D]

luckydog1 -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/11/2008 12:36:37 AM)

Zen it would cause a massive clusterfuck for the companies, and a bunch of extra costs dealing with it.  Want to bet it would just gets passed on to the consumers.  A don't drive weekend would have basically the same effect.

I don't think "screwing things up" is really a good goal.  And if it were your goal there would certainly be many much eaiser things you could do to screw things up.  Of course the most effective ones would be called terrorism....But if thats your goal...

PanthersMom -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/11/2008 12:57:28 AM)

we have been using only one car since my amputation last august.  our gasoline consumption was cut in half right away.  since then we've made a habit of consolidating our trips, planning ahead and going out less often.  we're doing what we can to conserve and we're trying to set a good example for the young ones.  i've started getting through to them about conserving electricity and water and so forth.  makes me feel like i'm doing a little something worthwhile, can't do a whole lot but it all adds up.  i think we should push those lazy jerks in washington to do more to encourage development of new forms of energy.  we have the technology, we could do alot towards lowering unemployment by creating new industries in energy conservation and development.  sounds great in theory, but we all know they're too busy lining their pockets with the status quo.  and just because i like saying it, "fuck chavez!"

Zensee -> RE: Fuck You Chavez (2/11/2008 1:02:57 AM)

I'm no trr-rrst, lucky. I'm not out to destroy the things esential to our times. I'd just like to see them used much more wisely and considerately.

And yeah, any disruption in consumption would be an added cost at the pump and since the suppliers would know what day the protest was to be on, they could just have a two for one sale that day...

In general, I think the fact that Chaves, personally, is a prick (and pricks pretty much have most top offices in the world sewed up) is separate from the right of a nation to control it's exports (regardless of whether that it is a good strategy or not). It's one thing to say that Chaves' tactics are stupid and  shortsighted, it's another to say "How dare they!?"

Muttling,

One of the claims of oil companies, is that tight supply periods are responsible the super high prices.

The issue of tight supply periods is more one of refinery capacity than crude oil supply and that's what makes the prices so unstable.   None of the oil companies hold reserves of crude OR refined fuel sizeable enough to stabalize the prices.

Frankly, there is absolutely ZERO economic reason for them to do so as storing such reserves are extremely expensive.

What's more, the refinery capacity is the real choke point in the system and our demand is currently bumping into the limits of refinery capacity.  When ONE refinery goes off line for scheduled maintenance it puts our supply in a huge lurch.

While most want to blame the oil companies, the reason for this problem really isn't the fault of the oil companies.   It takes 20 to 30 years a billions of dollars to put a new refinery on line.   They simply can't afford the cost of it unless they want to build one in a third world country where political stability create enormous risk.  Once they build it in such a place, they will get massive political backlash for outsourcing it where the environmental laws aren't as stiff.   (No one bothers to think that it's those same laws that make it unfeasible to build one in a developed country.)

In short, it's a HUGE catch 22 for everyone.  The oil companies' answer is to try to expand capacity of existing refineries, but that can only go so far.

The whole situation is a massive mess of politics, capitalism, and manipulation.   The oil companies AND a multitude of governments are to blame for it.   What's more, we will be out of oil in another 100 years so we really do need to be serious about alternative fuels technology for a variety of reasons.

Yup,just say your piece and defend it.That`s all anyone can do.

Good arguments don`t need super powers to succeed,only someone to voice them.

Folks will decide who`s full of it and who isn`t,naturally.

The point is not to change minds(necessarily)but rather to participate and counter the bull shit that flies around pretending to be logic/fact.

If someone,anyone(including myself) says something that isn`t true,fair,accurate or is made up,speak out.
