YourhandMyAss -> Cold water on an empty stomach first thing in morning cause cramping and other issues? (2/15/2008 8:37:19 AM)

woke up at 7 was insanely thirsty went onto the porch where our bottles of water were kept and had half a bottle first things first, it's cold out so the waters a bit chilly. now I am cramping and I need to belch a ton just to get the bloated stomach full of gas feeling to lesson. And my guts rumble every now and then.

Why w*ould the cold ish water do this? With the bloating and gass issue two gassex tablets should help, but I don't know of any reason why coldish water on empty tummy would upset it so.

Well, my best idea is to look at what the rest of your body does when subjected to extremely cold temperature all of a sudden.  Step into an ice cold shower!!  What happens to your nipples?  What happens to a man's balls?  His dick?
What color do your lips turn?  Could blue be an indication of slow circulation and, hence, less air supply to tissue?

Take the reactions the rest of your body has, then apply it to your stomach.  I think that will answer your question.

Personally, I can't eat or drink anything as soon as I get up for the same reason.  The cramping from the cold water is more than likely from just the sheer shock to the system from the temperature of said water.  I can tolerate diet pepsi after getting up, but for some reason, cold water gets me every time.  And I have to wait at least an hour before even trying to eat anything, if not, I'm in the bathroom.

It may have something to do with the body not being fully "awake" either.  It takes me at least an hour to be fully with it....caffeinated or not.  Until then, I just go thru whatever motions I have to....speech is out of the question....you'll get a grunt or moan.....that's about it.  I'm sure there's someone with the biological answer out there....this is just how I am.

Its the sudden shock to the system .. the vast difference of temps and the sudden ingestion of liquid ... best sipped not chugged first thing ...its like after fasting or someone being starved .. in mini version ..

soul2 share I have had to go to the bathroom too. I just wanted to leave that out in favor of not getting to eww tmi'ish lol.

Miss Harlet, I did sip as oppse to gulp, but it probably was still quite a shock to introduce cold water to a barely awake system.

I took the gassex but I still have an overwhealming need to burp to release pressure, and I feel utterly icky. I'd go back to sleep but I gotta be ready to go we've got business to take care of today.

Maybe eating some of my special k cereal w/ill help?

A glass of cold water first thing in the morning is a natural, even if not very pleasant, help if you are constipated. It is often recommended to pregnant woman, but might get slightly "explosive" reactions.
