Sanity -> "Street View" on Google Maps (2/15/2008 8:37:42 PM)

A slow-moving truck snapped images of my house and now anyone can see it over the Internet. Have they snapped you yet, or your house?

To find out, just go to Google Maps and click on "Street View" to see if there's a camera icon on your city. If there is, search for your address and click on "Street View" to see your house.

It's kind of cool. I can tell what day and what time they came by my house based on what was going on around the neighborhood at that particular time and day. You can pan, tilt and zoom... it's almost scary in some ways.

Kinda big brotherish,isn`t it?

I use it to search out trails to ride.I have checked out my own house as well as my folk`s home.

Looking right in my apartment window. Sort of glad I wasn't walking around naked that day.

Actually you can`t see into windows. You have to buy the premium Google package to do that.[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m11.gif[/image]

They came by my place one time only, last summer. It's not like there are live streaming images or anything.

But they took so many pictures that it's still amazing, it's like you're walking down whichever road it is that you're viewing. You can look at buildings from several angles, or even look straight up at the sky...

Nope, not even one in my state or the neighboring states.  I guess they figure we would shoot at any slow moving vans going down the road taking photos. [:D]

Nope.. not in Tampa :) or where my mom lives..  We're safe, so far!

Don't any of you worry about that thing privacy?

If I'm a criminal I can case the joint from the safety of my PC grand.[8|]

My grass looks dry lol. I can't tell when it was taken, no vehicle in the driveway but it is pretty cool seeing how much woods in comparison to lawn that I have. No wonder mowing is exhausting haha.  ETA, I zoomed in all the way. This was taken last fall, the trees look very strange btw. If I didn't know it was forest it would take a bit to see it. Very cool, I wish there was a way to paste the images here w/o the link with the addresses.

It seems to be centered around cities(the street view part)here in the NY metro area.I guess as time goes on,it`ll expand.

Kind of creepy,IMO.

They did Juneau, Alaska and Boise, Idaho, too... maybe they're deciding what city to do next by throwing darts at a map. It seems that they are in the process of eventually getting the whole planet done, so if you're not mapped yet watch for the Google truck with about a hundred cameras on it...

I live in a rural area and this is the second update of my house (that I have seen). The first pic was from about 4 years ago and the current one is from last fall. Admittedly I was surprised to see my area updated.

When I click on 'traffic' nothing shows, what all does it show when you do it? Is it a street view? All I get is either satellite or terrain and the terrain one seems a bit wrong to me.

I clicked on "Traffic" while viewing a map of the whole United States and got several traffic light icons. I clicked on one of those, the one for Portland, Oregon and I saw streets that had symbolic green and yellow coloring on them, probably green for smooth commuting and yellow for road construction. Were it a weekday morning I'll bet that I would be seeing a lot of red
