Is electric play safe for people with heart conditions? I imagine it'd be a no-no for someone with a pacemaker, but what about conditions that aren't sever enough to warrant a pacemaker or medication? At a club a few weeks ago we saw a couple playing with a violet wand - it was the first time he said he wanted to try something out without me prompting or asking to try it. I can't really imagine how I'd ask my cardiologist about this ^^;

No electrical play with anyone who has any sort of heart condition. That is rule number one. Just say Nonononononononononono!!!

http://uncleabdul.com/UAweb111.htm My understanding had been that static electricity stayed on the surface of the skin and that it didn't pass through the body enough to affect the heart. From what UA is saying, that's not entirely true, but that because the current passes through a series of resistances, the current going through the body from a violet wand is "very, very low", so be aware of that, study more, and make informed decisions. My interpretation of that is that it's up to you and your partner to decide.

Violet wand isn't the same type of electrical play that draws the standard 'nothing above the waist' warning. The violet wand draws a static charge from the probe, other types of play (electric chair, TENS, et al.) run a significant current through deeper tissue, between two electrodes. I'm with the majority here. A violet wand is a completely different type of electricity than other electrical play. It is "static" electricity. You know. The kind that when you walk across the rug in socks and then touch the doorknob you get a little shock on your finger. Or, when you rub a balloon on your hair and your hair stands up when the balloon is lifted a few inches. Same kind of electricty. It remains on top of the skin. However, do what you feel comfortable with. If you still have concerns, stay below the waist and make yourself feel better. There are plenty of things you can do "down there." One thing about a violet wand to keep in mind if you are new to using it is, it can produce small burns if left in one spot for too long. This is great if you want to create that effect, but if not, just keep that in mind.

With a heart condition (but no pacemaker) in mind, I'd say... - Absolutely Unsafe: Cattleprods, stunners etc, (at all) and TENS / EMS units above the waist. - Not recommended: TENS / EMS units below the waist. - Probably safe: normal Violet Wand play anywhere on the body. The type of energy released by the electrodes on a properly functioning, well-maintained Violet Wand is related to static electricity and is less dangerous than the shock you'd get from shuffling your feet on the carpet. It does not penetrate the body beyond the top layer of skin. Given that, my only other concern would be overstimulation. If your heart can withstand the kind of exertion that normal Sexual Intercourse indicates, you should be able to handle play with a Violet Wand. I am not a Doctor or medical professional, so my opinion is based solely on my experience and study of the subject. As with any advice given here, I'd let your own judgement be your guide. If you are teetering on the edge of decision, consider this: Would it be so terrible if you did not engage in electrical play? - Rogue86
