Hello Collarchatterees!

Right then.  Being that aspartane causes cancer and brain problem in rats... and in density is hazzarous waste, being that our commercial culture ballyhoos  fake food, and downright poisens to ingest daily.

How do you cope?

The peice says 163 cans of soda a year. HellOO I drank 2 liters a day for many years!

A study says brain problems in 20 years.

Ok- I deleted soda from my life.  But I chew sugarless gum and tic tacs- which I thought was better then chewing finger nails. [meds cause dry mouth]
How much aspartane is in a tic tac of piece of gum, and is it harmless?

IMO this issue is not one we can pooh pooh off.

Spill it.

Aspartame gives me severe migraines and I don't consume it.  I drink carbonated water - lemon, lime or cherry flavored Crystal Geyser.  It is a rare occurrance when I will have a soda.

I can't eat Splenda, either, as it gives me digestive problems.  I hate artificial sweeteners - it's just poison, in my opinion.  I put real sugar in my coffee, and have learned to eat most things unsweetened.

I try to limit my consumption as much as I can.
But being borderline diabetic it is hard as hell, I can drink coffee and tea, black.
But I do have at least 1 diet soda a day, and at least 1-2 sugar free products daily.
ugh

Roger,
Try stevia...they now have it in single serving packets as well.  It is sweeter than natural sugar yet it is still a natural product.
In other words a good alternative.

CrimsonMoan -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 9:42:03 AM)

Grew up using equal and I still do. Splenda and the others give me headaches and out right wreck havoc upon my stomach. If its not soda I'm chugging juice or ice tea or kool aid but between me and Diesel we put down alot of soda

Plain old H2O always does the trick, hunky :-) .

MissMorrigan -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 10:42:32 AM)

Yep. I don't drink as much water as I should per day, if I had one of those cooler units I'd need a refill every week. If I have any kind of artificial sweetener my tongue dries out and I get a vile bitter taste in my mouth, so keep off the sodas or anything else with sweeteners in.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 11:00:39 AM)

What were those chemicals they banned back in the 60's?  Dang this noun problem......  anyway, It's Always Something.  I do think that artificial sweeteners are bad for you, but guess what?  If they TASTED good to me, I would be chowing em like the rest of the folks.  But, they taste yucky.  Which is a shame, because I loves me some pepsi and I have to limit my empty calories.

whatever that nasty shit was in fresca.  that shit would kill you outright. you would just die of pure ick.

CYCLAMATES!

Damn, I thought I would never get that word out.

i just wish i knew what drinking coke was like wayyy back when them drugs where in it....must have been a real trip drinking this stuff.

pahunkboy -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 11:47:58 AM)

Ok- in my case I deleted soda.  but i still eat gum and tic tacs...   the taste buds come back.  im not officially a vegatarien BUT i daily consume a medley of vegies and fruit.  i come to view much in the supermakrket is not real food.  junk food.

LaTigresse -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 11:52:46 AM)

I just drink water, lots and lots of water. I also try to avoid anything that isn't sweetened with sugar. Eating mostly fresh fruits and veggies is ideal but this time of year is difficult for me. Yesterday I made a big pot of homemade beef and noodles. Saturday I made some homebaked italian style bread and a potato casserole that is a family favourite. Something about cold nasty weather pushes me towards more carbs. Spring better hurry before my ass is too wide to fit through a doorway without turning sideways....

SubbieOnWheels -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 12:34:06 PM)

Some sugar-free gums are sweetened with Xylitol, another naturally-occuring sweetener. I use Xylitol once in a while on my cereal, but the box contains a warning not to use too much of it in a day - seems to have a laxative effect. I have mostly learned to eat unsweetened or natural foods, but I do allow myself to eat dessert at church suppers and the like - on my diabetic diet, I leave room for that much sugar, and it doesn't affect me adversely.

pahunkboy -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 12:37:47 PM)

LAT good point.  Some frozen vegies arent too bad.  I started treating my body good say at 40. i hope when i age- i can still eat nut, tomatos.

seeing what the masses eat- it is crap.  junk food. 99% of it.   then people wonder why they dont feel well- are lethargic and sick.

mom is cleaning her colon and i see a difference in her voice already.

Her colon affects her voice?  That's interesting.

Frozen veggies are really good anymore.  Most are fresh frozen..something that didn't happen 15 years ago.  Many of them have more nutrients in them than the fresh that have been sitting around.

pahunkboy -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 2:58:26 PM)

Hi Gloria,   her voice is happier now that she is clearing out the gunk.

on fresh or frozen vegies the key is to not over cook them.  ild agree frozen taste better now as compared to way back.

sub4hire -> RE: critique artificial sweateners intensely ? ~! (2/18/2008 3:03:02 PM)

That explains it Roger.  A happier voice..

When I said they were better I meant strictly nutrient count.
Taste wise the jury is still out for me anyway.
Frozen peas seem to have a taste all their own.

Anyway the best way is to steam all veggies.
