Why is walnut valuable wood?  We have two of them at this house...the wood doesn't look too valuable to me.  Limbs break without much strain..etc.
I doubt anyone is going to want to steal your tiny trees.  You have to wait 15 years until they are full grown...then they will steal them from you.

yeah, well we also have 5 squirrels that call our yard home.  I didn't even see a single walnut on the trees this year.  I did see 2 on the ground that they dropped as the dog chased them out of the yard.
No big deal though I can't see myself peeling that crap off and sanitizing it or whatever you have to do to get to the nut inside.

Walnut is a highly sought after wood for fine cabinetry. this has been going on for years. for boards wider than 8" it can be as high as 9.00 a board foot. Thw theives put car mufflers on chain saws and cut the trees down at night

If it was me i,d steal them and hybrid the wood, make some prized bows, Then sell them off at well over a hundred each by the end of a few years.

Better yet.just lable them as spiked...:) It is possible you may one day wish to sell some of them. Spiked trees, make the guys at the saw mill very unhappy

the trick w trees is to intermix slow and fast growing. then when the slowgrowing get big cut down the softwoods..to allow the hardwood to flourish.

Among the trees i planted are the messy pine trees. the kind w sap. then a buddy told me the draw ants!! so i intend to keep them miniature where they are cutsie. [my buddy made his place into a gingerbread house and the value skyrocketed]

so rose bushes and blue spruces are mixed in. naturally a smaller tree is cheaper-

this year i want to turn more of my yard into wild preserve. [i HATE to mow- but LOVE to garden!]

i have 2 rock gardens- I want to build a 2 story water fall.   last year a huge avalache came down a mountain outside of town- well now some GREAT pretty rocks are available for free.  before that i paid $50 for a few rocks delievered. tho the can cost $300.

rocks downt die. but they can disintegrate...and the pretty side can settle and flip it so the garden isnt is tall or pretty.  when i bought my place i planned to add a roof deck. my bro said he would do the work and figure $600. but seeing how much remodling costs- i think i wont do it.  especially when there is somuch else to do repair and upgradewise...

Good idea Jeff.  I wish I had the room for walnut trees. Walnut is in my favorite category. mulberry is cool too- olive, oak,

i dont care for weeping willow- and HATE cottenwood trees
