It will have an impact on how I treat someone, but as AquaticSub comments, there will be some overlap. A human pet, to me, does not imply acting like a different species, but as a domesticated human animal, which is more likely to mean curling up at my feet than to be chained to my bed. And I certainly don't find it appealing to have one use a litterbox; hell, you can train a cat to use the regular toilet, and most people already know how to do just that- why seek to undo that?

I have a hard time seeing the allure of the pet thing at all, but it could be that the movie "Pet" poisoned my mind.

I used to love being called pet. I do act like a puppy sometimes but for me pet just made me feel safe and yummy.

Now though, I seem to prefer more brutal sounding things like bitch or cunt or even gash ...

I have a pet.  I used to call him my spoiled pet, but I'm unspoiling him little by little.

I refer to him as a pet because I didn't bring him on as a submissive per se, I brought him on as a therian playmate; a kinky bottom.  It was my idea to have both a pet and a slave BUT things don't always work out the way we plan.
Our relationship is evolving and we shall see where it goes from here.

I am his human pet...at times he says it affectionately as a term of endearment, and at times he says it to equate me with his dogs.  :)

I'm usually called "silly slut".  But when I hear silly slut, I become all tingly and giggly...

Because he's so like a pet. It's also how he sees himself too. There is more to the relationship it does has have basis around his cat likeness.

While I may run around barking and am prone to pouncing and licking him affectionately for mock grooming, he rarely ever calls me pet. I am usually addressed as "babygirl" or "fucking bitch" oddly both make me equally warm and fuzzy feeling lol

This is for AquaticSub: Genesis 1:26 states that man may dominate all other creatures but the dominion intended is a caring and responsible paternalism rather than a callous exploitation.

It also states that the universe was fully formed in seven days.  It took more like 5,475,000,000,000 days.  Could be that Genesis is wrong about some things.

Whos to say that 15,000,000,000. years doesn't translate to 7 days in Gods perspective of time. Not all perspectives on the concepts of time are the same, which is why I am always 10 minutes late to everything (those damn time warps keep abducting my camry)

So, your idea that there is a butt plug in my ass which is causing a distortion of my perception of time and space is not suitable for the forum?  It is not suitable for mailbox either, Walter.   But I am very happy to let others know what an ass (though wimpy) you really are.

I've always been fond of the term 'pet' because it matchs my outlook best. It's not that I haven't cared about the subs I've been fortunate enough to be with. I just haven't cared about them in a way I can consider romantic. It's more like the love I have for a pet.

It just happens to be a pet that I can have an intelligent conversation with and I don't have to walk behind with a baggie to scoop up shit.

(emphasis mine) Amen to that!

As for the difference in my mind, someone being a pet connotes that they are owned but also very cared for and perhaps even pampered rather than used for utilitarian purposes like a sub or slave. A pet might be someone you use for sex, play, and D/s but it in my mind, not someone you'd generally expect to do the laundry - unless your pet is also your slave in the way that many of us wear several hats. Note that I am referring to pet as an identity rather than just a pet name, no pun intended. I would like to have a pet, a boy who is around for just my own amusement and to keep me company, but it would be a very different relationship than I would imagine one to be with a slave.

Master calls me pet most of the time, really only calls me violet when He is talking about me to someone else. i just asked Him and He says it is just a pet name ... it's a bit like how Andy Capp (if anyone else remembers that British cartoon) referred to his wife as "pet" ... although Master uses it with more respect than that LOL! He considers me His slavegirl within Our shared definition of "slave" (which is probably somewhere between sub and slave for most here), but He rarely says that either, it's usually pet. It's not because of puppy or kitten play as W/we generally don't do that (other than when i act the fool and imitate O/our real dog Magic who goes goo-goo when He picks her up and rubs her tummy! i have her goofy grin, head turn when the hand stops, paw wave and the little teeth snapping thing off to a tee! It cracks Him up but He doesn't like me to keep it going too long, it just feels a bit too odd to Him. Same for when i call Him "Dada" and He calls me "bubba" ... it's a temporary fun thing.

However W/we both thought cuntlet was really cute ... that may well get a mention in bed sometime  And Maam Jay tends to call Her subs pet too ... for much the same reasons! Both Master and I still expect the "pets" to do the cleaning, the laundry etc ... they don't get to loll about all day like the furkids. In fact ... thinking about it ... the furkids usually get called that ... or "the kids" ... they rarely get called pets LMAO!

Daddy usually calls me baby, cutie or sweetie. But yesterday he called me kitty. I thought that was the cutes thing ever. But then he called me his kitty slut, which was definitely hotter.

i wrote this a long time back, when i started using pet as part of my nick...

Pets are loved, unconditionally. They're clearly not in charge, but a good owner would never mistreat their pet. Pets don't try to do wrong, and it has to be understood that it's not always their fault. Pets can't always help what they want, what they are, and what they need- but they can be trained. Pets want very much to please their owners, but pets have interests and needs too. They may not need to have their desires attended to immediately, but a pet whose longings are passed over for too long may begin to feel neglected and self-pitying. Pets need to to be accepted, and perhaps sometimes, even coddled.

In return, pets are devoted, and fiercely loyal. A good pet would never hurt its owner intentionally. They're obediant as a rule, though playfulness or some physical need may get the best of them at times. Pets aren't very good at making decisions, so they need to trust their owners to do what's right for them. Take care of your pet, and no one can ever take them away from you.

I am His pet, as well as His toy/sub/slut/whatchamacallit.

No animal role play, just interactions and expectation similar in form (but not exact) that you would have for a dog - just a human one. He expects me to be loyal and want to please my owner. "Training" is mainly His responsibility to set up positive associations for things (like being allowed to masturbate when I wear skirts). Very little punishment.

He generally calls me toy, but talks about our interactions in terms of the Dog Whisperer. He watches that - a lot.

"Is the puppy a bad dog because it forgets and jumps on the couch, or it the person a bad owner because they don't correct the puppy every time?" is how He described His view of our interactions

He does call me His property, but for us that does not remove my ability to say no to certain things. To Him, just like owning a dog, there are things that the dog simply won't tolerate. No less an owned thing, to be trained and corrected to the owner's liking, but I am not expected to allow everything.

The weird thing is, I am a cat person! I would have described myself as a kitty, but have started to think in "dog terms". When He first compared me to a puppy, I wrote back that "puppies drool and have dog breath". I told Him I was definitely a cat.

He told me He liked dogs, not cats, so puppy it is! Woof!
.
